Two schools 10 miles down the road from one another, Live Oak is on a huge upward trend...they seem to be doing things the right way with solid administration. Meanwhile, Denham Springs is being left in the dust. Administration is not liked by many, everything is so political in Denham Springs it's a shocker they went out and hired Myles Brennan's former HS coach...but it's turning out that might be all he's known for. Word on the street nobody wants to coach under him. Their band director is even a questionable hire.

Icing on the cake, the principals at Denham Springs and Live Oak are husband and wife. Two completely different run schools. Denham Springs can't get out of it's own way. Keep being you Denham,
Well theres not much anyone can do about it, it's a sealed system designed to keep people who question any of it at bay. School central offices are a fraternity of principals with school board members being all of their good buddies are having a prominent presence in the system.

There should be election laws prohibiting people to run for certain local positions if there are certain conflicts of interest and I would say a principle having a spouse on the school board in the same parish is a conflict of interest.

It's called nepotism laws, and Louisiana has them...with some exceptions, one of those exceptions being the school systems.

Don't worry, educators in Livingston Parish would never throw their name around or use relatives in higher up positions to gain employment or seek promotions. Never. Ever. The hiring practices in Livingston are fair, honest, and equal for everyone.

It should be, but it will get buried in the end. Turnover can be a problem anywhere, but this is more than just standard turnover. It's some teachers with 12+ years at Walker Elementary suddenly bolting, with some of those citing hostile work environment.

From my understanding, this is nothing new with that principal. I've heard stories of how she treats both parents and students over the years. Banning parents from campus and making life hell for teachers. I think when this incident went down a lot of the teachers were hoping this would finally push her out, when they saw the superintendent double down on his support for the principal they got deflated.

I believe allegedly the brother/brother-in-law got arrested a couple of years back for human trafficking
This is a much bigger story than coaches messing with girls I think

Morgan Wesley has requested her son, a first-grader, and daughter, a kindergartner, be allowed to enroll at Eastside Elementary.

Wesley said Sunday that she has made several requests to enroll her children at Eastside but has been denied or told there is no room. The Wesley family purchased a home in the Lakes at North Park subdivision in northeastern Denham Springs, believing their children would be enrolled in the school.

Posts on Facebook and TigerDroppings.com have covered what happened in March and also commented on conditions at Walker Elementary, including the number of new teachers this year.

Chaffin did address the issue of teacher turnover, a problem both in the Livingston school system and around the state, he said. Walker Elementary has “17 new faces” on the faculty since the end of the school year in May, he said. “As an example, when I became human resources director in 2012, there were 55 new faces at teacher orientation. This year we had 199,” Chaffin said.

I've heard the number of new teachers at Walker Elementary is actually well over 20...only 5 teachers remain on staff from last school year. The turnover is in response to the principal's handling of the pill situation and her overall treatment of both teachers and parents.

The article gives background on what led to this: kindergartner finds pill on bus, he ingests some of the pill, bus driver notified principal, principal failed to notify mother and teacher and lied about contacting police. Mother raises hell, she gets banned from campus and is now being denied access to superintendent.

The principal's husband is a school board member, so of course there is corruption...this scenario is so damn cliche, like a cop-out to a movie plot.
This thread was anchored...hmm, LP got their hands on Chicken

Can we talk about Lester Ricard at Walker High? Why is he suspended?

Because he's not a Walker/LP guy

A more interesting story is the Denham Springs High band director
Did anything ever happen with this? Did the parent get her child moved to another school?
