what magic?
What we saw on the field against Ole Miss, Arky, A&M....the magic that earned him the job.

you guys need to worry less about how his hiring was 'sold'. Thats not relevant. He's a first year coach. It's going to take some time to get his system in place....like with any first year coach. It's a process.

there is a reason we are only 2 pt underdogs tommorrow.
when O recaptures the magic of last year in gainesville tommorrow and we win this board will be singing a different tune
the snippets I've seen of O's espn interview....

I like.
I like the confidence. I like how he closed with "and it's going to be good" then smiled.
How do we recreate the magic of last year? I think we're going to see some of that tommorrow....
Hopefully guice can go some tommorrow. And he looks like the DG from the A&M game last year.
I also like the fact that O did the interview. Isn't running from it. He knows the troy game was not acceptable and doesnt represent LSU football and he's getting in front of the camera and being upfront about it.
The reality is O has a little bit of a rebuild here with all the guys playing on sunday now and it's going to take him getting some of his classes in to really know if he is up to the task.
We can still win the sec....

I know this isn't a popular idea around here now, but here me out.
With florida's players suspended, we have more talent than them. We win saturday....then Auburn? Don't forget this is still the same team that played a close game with Mercer(!) and scored 6 whole points in one game. Don't let the last couple games fool you; they are inconsistent. And we *always* win against them in DV.
Tennessee is a dumpster fire now...we got that game.
Same for Ole miss and arky.
Then all that stands between us and atlanta is somehow finding a way to get by Saban. By the time we play Bama we'll have a lot more confidence and be a much better team. If we were playing bama in BD tommorrow I wouldnt be super confident. But we will have time to get back on stride and play LSU football.
Then it's just a matter of developing a game plan against (likely) Georgia in the seccg.

re: Someone convince me that a record of less than 7-5 gets Orgeron fired

there is absolutely no chance that a bcs coach is fired after 1 year for a poor record. even 2 would be rare.
re: Will O have a Jim Mora melt and just walk away...?
Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/4/17 at 10:12 pm to sheek
O will learn how to handle these type of calls more as time goes by. He's in the first half of year 1 of his tenure. And hes understandably pissed after a poor showing which he himself is responsible for, so its ok that he took a little frustration out on a caller...with time he'll get better at handling it on the show
re: should O consider a coordinator change after the year...
Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/4/17 at 9:46 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
but he's unlikely to go 3-9 or whatever year 2....I mean thats hard to do. Even if we are bad bad we probably go at least 5-7 or 6-6 with the cupcakes(I know...troy)
re: should O consider a coordinator change after the year...
Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/4/17 at 9:41 pm to wildtigercat93
no I dont...there are plenty of cases where a coordinator isnt a good fit and only lasts a short time. Never is a head coach of a major program fired after 1 year....3 is pretty much the minimum absent scandal.

Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/4/17 at 9:40 pm to Cadello
if at some point in the O regime things are going south to the point that his job is in jeopardy(like back to back 6-6 seasons), he'll probably have to ax a coordinator and make some changes to get a 3rd or 4th year(depending on where they are at that point)

of course O is going to have a year 2, and probably a year 3. He got 3 years at ole miss. We very very very early, for better or worse, in the ed orgeron era.....he's going to have time to figure out how to get this thing right with hs players, his recruiting classes, his people, etc
should O consider a coordinator change after the year...
Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/4/17 at 9:32 pm
if one side of the ball is particularly bad as the year goes on?
Canada and aranda are highly thought of, but say the defense continues to sputter...does O consider a move? Or wait until the end of year 2 to change coordinators if needed?
re: Remember the Olemiss/Arkansas/Lville/A&M game last year?
Posted by hodsontofuller on 10/3/17 at 2:53 pm to voice of no reason
you can talk about the guise of continuity all you want, but the facts are this is a new head coach, new regime, new era. And new head coaches arent on the hot seat 2/5ths of the way through their first season.....thats just reality.

Hell I'd love to see someone like Venebles or Brahm here. But thats not the direction we went. We went in a different direction, and we'll have to accept it for awhile.
You cant start talking about changing coaches 5 games into a brand new regime/era.
re: Remember the Olemiss/Arkansas/Lville/A&M game last year?

I didnt want O. I wanted us to go with a real coaching search after we didnt get jimbo or herman. But we went with O. And that was the choice. So we live with it.

so the A&M win wasnt a big win? The louisville win, and beating the heisman winner like that, wasnt a big win?
of course they were.
Keep in mind O took down top 5 andrew luck and stanford when he was at USC as well.
He knows how to win big games.

I do, and we looked darn good in them.
And O was at the helm.
Those bigtime wins and that success is what got him the job. He came in, there were some questions, and then he got to work and we won some big games.
The A&M finale was amazing...watching us run all over them. And that was before Canada even came on board. O wasn't a problem then; hell it got him the job.
So if he could get it on track then and do that then for us, he can do it now.
