You said it...

He took a pretty tough loss this year at a fairly big tournament in Reno last spring. Lost 4-3 on a penalty with about 5 seconds to go (a penalty that we absolutely couldn't find when we watched on video). Was pretty stoked that his first response was "Yeah I'm pissed at the ref, but it should have never come to that. I didn't wrestle good enough."

Anyways, back to CWS... I'll be watching. I think you guys have all the momentum and should be in great shape.
eh.. fans are fans and everyone has the same types. Every fan base has great fans, every fan base has internet trolls, fans who blame the refs and always think the deck is stacked, etc. I get it, it's emotional for many. Tough way to go out after an amazing season. Life goes on.

My kid is a a wrestler and we always say - the ref doesn't decide who wins or loses, your wrestling decides who wins or loses.

Beaver fan here...

- The not requesting replay is squarely on us. Our coach blew it, he knows he did. This baffles me. Even if I didn't know the replay rules, I'd be asking right then and there.

- I'm not a blame the umpires guy. So yeah, the zone was terrible, the guy behind the dish was a joke, but it's our job to adapt. Your kid painted that spot all day and took advantage. Our pitchers did not. When Fehmel missed, he missed big.

Anyhow, congrats and good luck this week.
Haven't seen you back over on the Beaver board since the other day. Weird.
True, Thompson is 14-0 - but if there's a candidate for a the guy who has the most potential for letting the big moment get to him, it's Jake. I think he'll be on a short leash if he gets behind hitters early.

Rassmussen was our #1 last year until he had TJ surgery about 13-14 months ago...

I think it's Thompson Friday, Rassmussen in relief if we're ahead. Rassmussen saved for Saturday if we're behind.

Good luck Friday!
Hey nice avatar. Rogue Brewery.. Right here in the great state of Oregon!

Cheers and good luck on Wednesday.

We're definitely beatable. 4 teams have beat us this season. ;)

Seriously though, we're something like 14-1 in 1 run games, you have to have some ridiculously nice breaks go your way to pull that off.

But to your point, I'd personally much rather face FSU on Friday night than you guys. A win Wednesday and some big time chip on the shoulder/revenge factor on tap from LSU on Friday -> I don't like the thought of that. Then if you win Friday, we become the team feeling all the pressure IMO.

Another point, OSU's line up sees the ball better than any line up of hitters I've seen in a long time. They are rarely fooled at the plate.

That's a real good point. I've watched about 45-50 of our games this season and that's been the biggest difference between our team this year and last year - even the kids at the bottom of the order are working counts, having productive at bats. That and I'd say we're much more athletic from top to bottom than years past.

anyhow..we've all been there with the next day hangover. bright side is there's still potentially plenty of baseball left to play - so good luck vs FSU on Wednesday.

Thanks man - from one Burt Macklin fan to another!

Good luck this weekend. Saturday can't get here soon enough.

Has the university or athletic department come out with a statement.

Do you think He will play in the CWS?

I don't think he'll play and I think that's the correct move.

The University has been pretty tight lipped about it and lawyers are involved behind the scenes. There was an official statement from school President but it was pretty much what you'd expect - "we're deeply troubled by this and we are investigating.."

I think there's some major damage control going on because it exposed a big gap in the admissions process. Apparently we don't ask anywhere along the way, nor does the Athletic Dept (I don't know if that's commonplace at other schools or not). The county is supposed to send a list of registered sex offenders in the area to the university for review/cross check against the student body and then the university is supposedly dealing with those individuals enrolled on a case by case basis. Somewhere along the way, either it didn't happen, the list wasn't checked or people knew all along and hoped it wouldn't ever come out.

No one is protecting him. They pinned a note on the board about it.

There was a strong divide and endless posts between those who wanted him gone immediately, those who thought it was an ambush by a beat writer the day before supers and even some who thought he should be playing now as he paid his debt to society in terms of sentencing/probation/counseling.

Mods decided that the topic had been pretty much exhausted with the same angry arguments on all sides.

Depth - no question, SEC hands down. No argument here.

Arizona State being awful these past few years has hurt. USC not being very competitive (and not caring about being competitive) hurts the conference profile as well (IMO).

CWS champs - I'd have to look but I'd venture a guess that since 2000 it's pretty close in overall winners. We have 4 - OSU 2x, Arizona and UCLA. I'm guessing SEC has had 5 or 6? I know we've had some teams lose in the finals - Zona last year, Stanford 3(?) times around 2000-2001-ish, but you're correct - I don't think we've ever had 3 teams in the CWS.

I just chose 2000 since it's a nice round number. I know if we want back to 90's you'd get a whole bunch of great LSU clubs in there as well. One of my early 90's college favorites - Lyle Mouton!

There are 2 camps - there's the "always support our conference camp" and then there's the "hell no, that's a rival and I wish bad things upon them every day camp."

Sounds like most everyone here is pro Wake/anti-Gators.

That's generally how I am too with a few exceptions, have a hard time rooting for other Pac-12 schools. Alright, I'm all in on Wake-plus that was a sweet walk off in Game 2. Good stuff.

In defense of the mods over there, anything related to Heimlich will get shut down immediately. It's an emotional topic and a sad, shocking, no-win situation.

I wouldn't say one or two posters over there represents all of our fan base, just like you'd say the same thing about your own fan base. Some of the Vandy fans had us pegged as completely overrated and an easy series win simply because we're in the Pac-12, but it didn't work out that way. Others said - hey, you're 52-4 for a reason that's hard to do no matter who you are playing. So it goes.. #fans

Anyhow, LSU is an awesome program, nothing but respect from this guy. I hope we meet up next week.

P.S. - "beaver" innuendo puns are pretty played out. We usually hear a few from just about every "new" non-league opponent, but nothing original in about 20 years lol. But I will say, kudos to the next person who can come up with something new and original.

Also - should I be rooting for Wake or Florida today?
