re: A Lesson in Value

Demps has repeated made confounding moves. Gentry is a dud as a coach. Trading all those draft picks away for the young vets. Signing Asik and Ajinca to somewhat large contracts just for them to be unable to find playing time. Overpaying for Moore, Hill, and now Holiday. What really gets on my nerves is how he simply let Casspi, Ennis, and
If they start something like 1-5 its time to show up to the Blender with bags on our heads and a "Fire Gentry/Dump Demps" Banner. Every year is the same story. This team is just not ready to compete. Gentry is literally the worst coach in the league by a country mile and the FO just doesn't get it.
I'm afraid that is just Jrue. The last few years he shot about the fewest free throws in the league among point guards. He tries to avoid contact instead of taking it to the basket aggressively. I'm sure he's been told this is a problem year after year. Don't expect it to change.
Defense was bad throughout except for AD's ability to contest shots at the rim. The biggest problem seemed to be getting lost in rotations and Boogie's refusal to come out on his man. The fact the team has plenty of solid individual defenders makes me believe they will figure it out.

The beginning of the game had Finch's fingerprints all over it. All 5 guys constantly moving; getting into offensive sets quickly and making lots of quick passes; getting AD and Boogie the ball in positions where the can attack the rim. The second half was similar to what we have come to expect from this Gentry coached team. A guard holding the ball on the perimeter trying to figure out what to do with AD and Boogie simply standing around saying wtf occasionally jacking up threes. In my opinion, Gentry should be banned from calling any plays because he keeps coaching like Nash or Curry is on his team. It is only the first game, but old habits die hard. I just hope Demps pulls the plug on the Gentry experiment quickly if things are not working, or else I hope Rondo and Cousins stage a mutiny. There is too much talent on this team to have another year with a coach that can't figure things out.

I liked Moore and Diallo's aggressiveness. Despite his fouls, Diaollo gives this team instant energy off the bench. I am hoping that Gentry keeps giving him minutes because he has tremendous upside.

For Jrue's sake, I hope he doesn't play any point this year. The difference between him and Rondo is night and day. Rondo knows how to bend the defense whereas Jrue simply reacts to what he sees in front of him.

Hill may be overpaid right now by a few million dollars mostly because he became a free agent the year the cap exploded. That's not a big deal. The Pels are currently paying two reserve centers a total of 16 million to basically polish the bench. Hill provides solid defense and fits well into Erman's switching scheme. I am just hoping he becomes more consistent and aggressive on the offensive end.

I'd love to see a small lineup with Chandler at the 4 and Boogie at the 5.
If the Pels don't do good enough to make Boogie sign an extension you might as well cash AD in for all those Boston picks. He won't be staying with a franchise that can't build around him.

Agree. Still no defense or rebounding. With the trade they lost a lot of depth. Dantoni teams do not do well in the playoffs. Never have and never will.
I'd be for it! He would be a 150% improvement over Gentry/Demps. The Pels could finally throw pace and space out the window and get someone that could run the team like they have the top two big men in the league.
They would have to clear a lot of cap space (assuming Jrue resigns), probably by attaching future numbers ones to some combination of Asik, Ajinca, Moore, or Hill. I would do it if the opportunity was there. The Pels badly need a legit wing.
I have been thinking for sometime that Evan Fournier would be a great trade target. He is young, a proven shooter, playmaker, and can play both the 2 and three. I think he is under contract for another 4 years at 17 million per. The Magic seriously need to hit reset and seem a little down on Fournier because he wasn't as efficient as the number one option. I think he would be excellent as the third/fourth option on a playoff team.
