There has to be a HS coach in BR that Jones can consult with to learn how to coach an offense against a zone

LSU has to pick up the intensity on defense

Pathetic in the half court. Mickey and Martin set screens and just half arse it on any kind of dive to the bucket.

I liked what I saw from Williams and thought that he probably deserved a few more carries than he got last year. That said, it was tough to get carries in LSU's loaded backfield.
It's not just the jersey number, be he reminded me a bit of Steven Ridley. A guy that was always running downhill, but still had the ability to make quick cuts in the hole. I think Guice could be a great back, but until he and/or Brosette can prove they are big time backs, Williams should be number two.
LF is a great physical talent and you have to get him carries. However, if for some reason he was out, I'd feel confident that Williams could carry the load (though with less of a threat for a big run)

Don't forget about UMass either. Right now, that's a top-50 win (and a dominant one at that)

I honestly feel that on any given night LSU could beat any team in the country. Makes me very excited about the prospects of making the tournament. We could beat anyone. Just have to get in...
I really like the way LSU is trending up in the KenPom rankings. His rankings are generally a very good indicator of potential success in the NCAAT. For example: Tenn was an 11 seed and had to play in the play-in game just to get into the field of 64. However, they were ranked much higher by Ken Pom than their record and seed indicated. What happened in March? UT made a run to the Sweet 16 and damn near made it to the Elite 8.
In 2006 LSU was a 4 seed in the tournament, but ranked in the top 8 (I think) of the Ken Pom rankings. We all know what happened in March of that year.
Like you said, if this team can just find its way in, they might have a chance to make some noise

Gonna have to go 5-1 (with that loss coming to Arky)
If that is the scenario then LSU should be in pretty good shape. That would likely be good enough to finish 3rd in the SEC with head-to-head wins over every other SEC "bubble" team (UGA, A&M, Miss-twice) Plus, that would mean LSU would have a 6-3 conf road record, which helps.
I think people overrate the value of the conf. tournament. If you listen to the committee on selection Sunday, the (major) conference tournament results generally don't play a huge part in who does or does not get in as an at-large. Certainly upsets in the mid-major conf. tournaments do.

No Eddie Murphy?
You could tell the OP was pretty young by his list. Only 2 from the late 80's/early 90's.
For me, Eddie Murphy is number 1. He could do it all. He could play a ghetto black guy (Tyrone Green); and old Jewish man (Gumby); a gay man (Little Richard Simmons); and sing and dance like James Brown or Stevie Wonder. No one was as laugh out loud funny as he was.

What do you think about our current projected seeding compared to Georgia? I have no argument with our current projected seed in bracketology but I'm confused how Georgia would be an 8 seed. They have some ugly losses as well and there's no impressive quality win. We also beat them in the head to head matchup.
UGA -
Strength of Sched. (SOS): 24
Non Conf. SOS: 61
LSU -
SOS: 102
Non Conf SOS: 192
LSU has some good wins, but they did not play a tough schedule. UGA did.
Now, keep in mind that LSU still has some good RPI games left to play (A&M, OM, Ark, even UF) so the overall SOS ranking should go up. But still, at the end of the season UGA will have played a much tougher schedule. Thus, the reason for them being a higher seed than LSU at the moment. Who you play is very important

Yea our record against top 100 RPI is pretty impressive. But the 3 120+ losses are killer. We have the good of a Top 5 NCAA seed and the bad of a top 5 NIT seed.
Certainly those losses aren't great. However, I think the committee would be willing to look at those as anomalies if LSU can keep winning the rest of the way. 2 of the 3 losses were on the road, and none were by double-digits. Glass half full translation: Even at their worst LSU is still a tough team to beat.
The real killer for LSU is not the three "bad" SEC losses, but the bad SOS. LSU has the second worst SOS in the SEC and the 3rd worst non-conf SOS (192 overall). We knew that would be a problem from the beginning of the season, and shame on Jones and Co. for not scheduling better. The committee has been pretty clear that they don't look favorably upon teams that "hide" in the OOC part of the schedule. LSU did compared to the rest of the SEC. That's why the margin of error in conference play is so slim. There's nothing LSU can do about that now though. Just have to start stacking up "good" wins. A&M, Ole Miss and Ark. are the last opportunities to do so.

Biggest game of the season thusfar?? Big RPI boost with this win on the road..
Huge game. In addition to the RPI boost, LSU and A&M could be the final two teams out of the SEC fighting for a NCAAT birth. It certainly won't help LSU's chances if A&M has a two-game sweep head-to-head. Also, a win tomorrow clinches a winning SEC road record for LSU (with 2 more road games still to play). The fact that LSU can win "anywhere" could help them out come selection Sunday.
While the UK game was a great opportunity for LSU, it can be argued that the game tomorrow is the biggest one of the year thus far.

3 seed? You guys do know the two seed is still very much in play, right? LSU is only 2 games behind Ark with a chance to play and beat them in the reg season finale
re: Did the Kentucky game make LSU realize just how good they are?
Posted by Boner Stabone on 2/15/15 at 10:03 am to Bootycall
I think it has more to do with getting Patterson and Quarterman into the starting line up. Yes they played well against UK, but it started the game before against Bama. They went from a team that had to play down the wire against even the worst SEC teams, to a team suddenly started winning SEC games (except UK) by 10+

I think him coming back and expanding his shooting game, ball handling, and especislly passing would greatly benefit him.
That sounds good in theory, but with Simmons coming in and hopefully Martin staying he isn't going to be asked to do those things. LSU will have him play the role of a de facto "5" on that front line. Though maybe not at an NBA level, he's much better suited to play inside than the other two.
The reality is that:
A. He's not going to grow two inches just by coming back to school and;
B. It will be difficult for him to improve upon the great numbers he has put up in his first two years
He may not be a first rounder, but his stock will likely never be any higher than it will be after this season

Portis is the only guy with comprable numbers to Mickey. WCS? He's lucky he plays on a team with enough great players to allow him to show up only whe he wants to.
He's really killing it with 9 ppg; 6 rpg; and 2 bpg. If that's POY numbers they ought to just give the award to Quarterman or any other avg SEC player. Hell, he's not even the POY on his own team

It seems this team has built from the Kentucky game, as opposed to letting it become their Waterloo. They took away from that close loss all the positives, and believe in themselves. If they continue to play together and grow as a team, they will make the tourney. It's right there for the taking.
I'm really surprised they were able to win today. Even if they had beaten UK I thought today would be too much of an emotional letdown. So glad I was wrong. This better play can be traced back to the Bama game whe Jones FINNALY got his best 5 players on the court from the start. It's no coinciden that LSU has started red hot in all 3 games. There is no reason to waste time with Gray and Malone and get off to a slow start. Get going early, and it can usually carry you through

no one from Kentucky will have the numbers Mickey has
The problem is that the people who vote for the award are lazy and largely misinformed. They generally jus vote for the best player on the best team without looking. It crazy that people who generally know so little are the ones responsible for deciding these things.
The SECPOY should be a 2-horse race between Mickey and Portis. There isn't a close 3rd
