re: Did Alleva really refuse to pay $6 million to Herman?

Herman had a verbal agreement then went back on his word when strong gets canned....and he's a pussy that is scared of saban

Tigerbaitlawyer was dead on. It didn't come down to money. That's just the best cover story Alleva can offer. He screwed up the entire deal by leaking the news early. I expect the details will come out soon.
And Herman isn't the gem people think he is. I am a fan of his coaching but not his character. I think he fails at Texas. By year 3, he and the Texas boosters will be at each other's throats.

If Herman chooses Texas over LSU for anywhere over $5M, he's an idiot. LSU has a much better talent base and he could be competing for a national championship next season. It would be a Kliff Kingsbury move. He chose his alma mater when he wasn't ready instead of waiting a year and getting a top P5 job. Do you really want a coach who makes dumb emotional decisions?

I wish A&M would fire Sumlin and hire Fleck. The guy can build a roster and motivate. Plus, he is clearly a lot of fun to be around.

Word is leaking that Herman has agreed to terms with Texas. Might still be Trace but Texas sources seem confident. Personally, I think LSU may have dodged a bullet. I'm a fan of Herman as a coach but he is a meltdown waiting to happen. And there are other issues. At the worst, Orgeron will leave LSU with a superior roster.

re: Serious question about Herman at this point, is he still your # 1 choice

Herman will be at Texas or UH. He wants the Texas job. USC would be tempting since its close to home but I don't think they will fire Helton. His wife is a California girl. I don't see her moving to Baton Rouge.

Kyle Whittingham, the head coach at Utah, would be a great hire if LSU doesn't land Jimbo or Herman
re: For Herman: Louisiana vs Los Angeles?
Posted by bluecouchstudios on 9/30/16 at 4:20 pm to sjmabry
Herman and his wife met while they were both attending Cal Davis. He wants the Texas job the most and I think he will stay at UH if he thinks it will open up in a year. Both Texas and USC have easier paths to the playoff than LSU. The fans also have lower expectations than those in Baton Rouge. And both Los Angeles and Austin are nicer places to live than Baton Rouge. The taxes in L.A. are an issue but there are ways to alleviate that pain to some degree. If Texas continues to have a down year, look for Herman to stay at UH if the Longhorns don't fire Strong.

And this is the best story I have ever heard about any basketball player. Crazy.

Here is a GIF I made of Pete awhile back. It's not perfect but the original aspect ratio and color was off so I did my best to clean it up. Enjoy.

Actually, 57 points per game (see link). Personally, I think he's the greatest basketball player of all-time (yes, even better than MJ).

re: How did Michigan get their man but Texas couldnt?

Because at Michigan, he doesn't have to recruit against Sumlin and the SEC. Nor does he have to put up with the LHN or the pompous attitude of the Longhorns.
And the Texas' program is more of a mess both with talent and organization than Michigan. It's worse than most realize.

Just FYI, the 1-year extension to Chavis' contract was only executed by LSU and does not extend his $1M buy-out. It only extends the school's intent to honor the terms. That's why the new contract is already being pushed. Otherwise, they would handle it in the offseason.
That being said, I'm sure he is just angling for more $$.

From a strategy perspective, when a team is behind, the OC is more likely to call plays and push for 1st downs via passing plays and by generally riskier play calling. He needs success. When a good DC has a team playing with a 2-score lead, it becomes easier to predict what the O will do and the DC has a cushion to take more risks. So he can be more aggressive with his blitz packages, dialing up more pressure, and he can stay in press man and push for turnovers. When an opposing offense and a defense are both taking risks, it favors the D if they are well coached.
A&M's offense tends to jump out to early leads and scores more points/game than most SEC teams. 9 points/game is 2 scores. And this includes the team falling apart in Bama. I don't think it's fair to compare last season since Manziel was unique. However, A&M will have a very talented dual threat on campus next fall as a true freshman. Some have argued Kyler Murray is the best player in the history of Texas High School football, having never lost a game as a starting QB in 3 seasons (in 6A).
With young talent like Myles Garrett and Armani Watt, who both started as true freshman, and incoming talent like Daylon Mack (who will recommit), there is a lot for a solid DC to build on. When you add in how bad the D has been, any solid DC will look like a genius the 1st season. So while it probably will not be Chavis, I'm convinced some high profile DC will recognize this and jump at the opportunity.

The move is highly unlikely. Just wanted to play devil's advocate.

But what on earth makes you think your offensive system helps a defense be successful?
9 more points/game vs conference opponents (in a down year for A&M's offense)?

I think it's a smokescreen. Why would he go to A&M? All of the key decision points favor LSU. Let's examine them:
Does he like key bosses?
- Head Coach
- AD
What kind of resources does he have?
- Recruiting landscape
- Facilities
- Money
Other factors
- Does he get the credit he deserves?
- How is his contract structured?
- Does the offense help him be successful?
Yep. All favor LSU. Nothing to worry about.

I'm sure the sip is wrong and your coach is safe. Or just a smokescreen. No way Chavis would call Sumlin. Move along. Enjoy the bowl game.
