From one of Chavis' Bios:
Over Chavis’ six years at LSU, the Tigers and Alabama were the only two SEC programs to rank in the league’s top four in scoring defense every year from 2009-14. LSU finished in the top 12 nationally in scoring defense five of six years under Chavis, highlighted by No. 2 and No. 4 in 2011 and 2014, respectively. The Tigers led the SEC in passing defense twice (2010, 2014) in his six years while they led the league in total defense his final season in 2014.
In 2011,
Ranked in the top five in the nation in four categories including total defense (No. 2 at 261.5), scoring defense (No. 2 at 11.29), pass efficiency defense (No. 3 with 95.58 rating) and rushing defense (No. 5 at 90.1). LSU also ranked No. 8 nationally in pass defense with 171.43 yards allowed per game.
13-0 regular season mark, the SEC title and a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.

Do they have dentists in Nashville?
With one big exception. It was no longer guaranteed.
re: Has Chief signed the deal yet?

So the question is would A&M pay more than 1.3 for something that is arguably worth 1.7 or more. My guess is everyday and twice on Sunday.
I think I'll pass but thanks so much for your kind thoughts.
LSU-You do indeed have the highest paid coaching staff which is a testament to your desire to maintain a great program. The 1.3 for Chief was agreed upon by both parties in 2012. Attempting to lock Chief in at the 2012 rate for 3 more years through 2017-well that is (risky). The market is different. You may be paying someone too much, but it is not Chief. Market value is a reflection of what others are willing to pay. Since he has been at LSU,Chief has had offers from Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, and now perhaps Texas A&M?? (All big players not some DII school). Clemson offered at the same time as LSU and again later. South Carolina had strong interest. All these big time bidders on your asset in less than 6 years. Whatever happens it might be time to revisit your allocation of resources because directing resources towards this particular asset was money well spent. This market activity also tells you he is likely priced too low for what he can do. People don't try to buy things that are priced too high whether it is a house or a professional service.
Just saying the devil is in the details.

Kirby Smart has a buyout of under $100,000. LSU wants Chief's buyout set a 1 million dollars (really?) Also the offer restricts taking a head coaching job or a pro job which most contracts allow.
Additionally, the three years is not guaranteed.
The terms are not on par with his peers which in a free market society only allows for competition for services.

re: Muschamp to AU deal being worked out

The SEC West is a much more difficult arena than the SEC East. It is more difficult than when Muschamp coached in the SWC West before, and much harder than the Texas gig. He should do well, but the SEC West is the ultimate test of skills.
Michigan is well known for promoting diversification and takes steps to achieve it. So, I don't really see your point.
Chavis and Cam are under contract with LSU for 2015....
The Lumbee/Cherokee Chief!
I just can't see him at UM.
LSU is still far away from Dillon, SC, but it ain't Michigan
UTenn
Clemson
USC - Columbia

You are 100% correct CountryVolFan. I know for a fact Chavis is not retiring for at least 7 years (so recruits do not worry). And by the way, he recruits very hard and very well and has never said he does not want to be a head coach. He said he did not want to be in a program not committed to winning. (big difference)

Yes you did

Yes I am
I am appalled that you judge people based on their race which is no reflection whatsoever on their character or skill. In case you have not noticed, most of your team members are minorities. Perhaps you should ask Eric Berry, Al Wilson, Pat Peterson, Eric Reid, or countless others about Coach Chavis’ character or how he has helped them. Better yet ask the Tennessee fans (the real ones) or the LSU fans (the real ones) about their assessment. I was there on John Chavis’ final Vol walk. Literally, there were thousands of people chanting “Chief”. Many were very upset, and it was reflected in their faces. It was surreal, and the result of the recognition of decades hard work and accomplishment- something that you are obviously incapable of recognizing. It was a display of gratitude. Of course, this was not reported, because how do those who market the inexperienced with manufactured images combat that which is genuine.
