re: NCAA Scholarship Limits

Probably not a great advantage since I put New Mexico State down among the bottom 5 programs in the FBS...maybe the worst!

Complicated answer but here is the skinny I believe. First, a guy declaring early for the draft helps only in the 85 total limit area, not in the number 25 yearly deal. Second, IF you signed 25 last year and they all made it into school and didn't backdate any, you can only sign 25 this year. If however, say you only signed 22 last year, you could sign 28 this year...25 for this class + 3 leftover from last class. HOWEVER, to sign those extra 3, they would have to be "early enrollees/EE". That means of course, they would have to start attending classes in January...the previous month to the NSD period in February. Hence, the word "backdating" which means those 3 count against the 25 limit of the previous class. :snoozer:
re: Any updates on Darrell Williams?

He would have gotten an LSU offer by now as a RB if he hadn't run a 4.8 40 at the last LSU camp. If that is his normal time, Spencer Ware was obviously faster than that. LSU did the right thing offering him as an athlete. You need to be a lot faster than 4.8 in the SEC unless you are talking FB in the backfield.

I plan on catching a couple of Robinson games in a few weeks when the HS schedule heats up. Of course when you are 7' in HS, I won't be watching too much about scoring, rebounding, etc, because I expect a lot of 2 foot layins or just reaching up and grabbing the ball, etc. But I want to see how he runs the court, how he moves his feet, how agile he is for a guy who weighs about 300, does he pass the ball, etc. I am more familiar with judging football prospects via clips and on site games but I will take a shot at a little basketball "scouting".
re: Where's the hog mollies in the 2014 class?
Posted by Tiger Stadium 2013 on 11/25/13 at 10:39 pm to KG5989
Fanaika must be the 5th and he is a JUCO and has played this year....so he has a grand total of 1 year of eligibility left after this season. Plus, that means that LSU only signed 3 OL in the 2012 class. Reid Ferguson is only supposed to be a snapper and probably will never play OL.
LSU needs badly to sign 3 OL.
LSU needs badly to sign 3 OL.

Have you listened to Garrett talk in interviews? The guy is intelligent in addition to being talent. Perhaps you forgot when Zach Lee showed up at LSU and Crowton gave him his encyclopedia of offensive plays/schemes, and Crowton "was amazed" at how quickly Lee picked up the majority of it. That was about a week I believe. Plus, show me in the NCAA rule book where a MLB HAS to make the audible calls. That is what happens most of the time but is not one of the 10 Commandments. Welter simply isn't MLB material. Did you not watch the games this season?

No way he starts over Welter. Welter isn't going anywhere. Garrett will start as a Sophomore and get some mop up duty next year.
Way he will start over Welter. LSU needs an athletic, punishing MLB. Welter isn't it. Garrett starts in game 1 at MLB. Book it!
re: Does LSU take another RB this class besides Fournette?
Posted by Tiger Stadium 2013 on 11/25/13 at 6:43 pm to beauchristopher
I would only worry about 2 RBs being brought in....Fournette and Palelei. Magee will definitely be back and there seems to be a dispute about Blue. LSU is set up for RBs in future classes with already a commit and will get more. When D Williams ran that 4.8 at the last LSU camp, doesn't look like RB is the position for him. That IMO is why LSU offered him as an athlete.

The only reason the games were created was to sell the recruiting buzz. The game is held up for the announcements because thats what people tune it to see.
No one really gives a shite who wins the game.
Post of the recruiting season! Exactly right....the players on the field are actually the sidelight. How many times does the action off the field/announcements actually hold up the game (commercials being the exception) like happens here. That is why I don't normally watch the games unless multiple LSU recruits are involved in the announcement. Even then, I simply DVR the game and SKIP the football to get to the relevant announcements. :rotflmao:
re: Anybody think we'll get a commitment or two will announce from today's big win?

For the record, I am NOT saying that Paris is NOT a stud. But it is nonsense for someone to jump on a post of mine when I was stating documentable facts that anyone who isn't lazy can verify as the truth. LSU has 0 5* currently committed for 2014, 1 5* each for 2015, 2016, and clearly 2017 if rankings went that far out. I repeat what I said...who would have thought that LSU would have 0 5* committed at this time for 2014 yet 5*s for the next 3 years after this one. Shows what a strange year it is for recruiting.

No, I am NOT saying that LSU won't get a lot of commits during the games...what I am saying is I would be shocked if the LSU coaches had anything to do with the delay. Once again, 1) ESPN/NBC/recruiting services associated with the games 2) recruits wanting nationwide exposure

I absolutely believe so. They want to make a big show and sweep the top guys at the All Star games IMO.
I would be shocked if that were the case. Let's just say that LSU is doing that this year for argument's sake.....and LSU has about the lowest # of verbals than any major school right now (half of Tennessee's cast of thousands for example). Why didn't LSU do it last year? How about the year before? IMO, it is clear it is based on 2 factors: 1) all star games already discussed but NOT instigated by the coaches but by the allstar games themselves and the kids wanting the exposure 2) having so many high profile LA recruits with so many options
I DO think that some have given LSU coaches "silent/double secret" commitments  because LSU would be recruiting certain positions a lot harder if they didn't feel about 100% on certain players. You can tell how programs feel about certain guys...how much are they recruiting in the belief they will lose that person?

Agree. The networks hold a lot of these kids hostage withthose announcements and put tons of pressure on kids to go through with them even if the kids have second thoughts. The families have to be getting compensated in some way or are just absent. No way I'd allow ESPN to pressure my child into doing something they aaren't sure about. There would be some furniture moving going on. However, the kids are as much to blame for this stuff as anyone. They agree to it and in many cases prefer to. I just don't like it but to each their own. Worse things going on than this
A couple of points. I do get a laugh every time some kid announces at the game and within a week he has reneged. Perhaps, they should replay the selected school's fight sound backwards to signify this. Here's the kids I don't respect and do respect during that time. First, the ones I don't respect...having the hats up there on the table is one thing. But the guys who play with the deal by picking up one hat and then throwing it down...have some class...just show some class to the coaches you did NOT select and give them respect for treating you and being your host on an official visit. The kids I do respect are the ones who do it without the above switcheroo nonsense and the kids who tell AA game people that they have decided they aren't ready to commit yet. BTW, who was that...Shaq Washington...who committed during the AA game and within 2 weeks had decommitted twice more and then went with his 3rd school in 2 weeks. What a guy!!

Unfortunately, I blame this on the January All Star games (Under Armour and Army All American). They have really become jokes that are less about play on the field (if you note, they hold up the game for announcements). And of course there is huge competition between the games not only for getting the players but getting more announcements.
And the obvious reason why LSU is getting hit harder this year than most is that LA HS players are making up a disproportionate number of say the top 75 players in recruiting. Normally, I don't even watch the circus but this year, it will be a make or break for LSU recruiting. I FULLY expect it to be huge make and as some have said, most likely a lot of Tiger Rag music. :geauxtigers:

You're full of crap!!! :spank: Might want to follow recruiting yourself. 4* on Scouts...4* on Rivals....4* composite on 24/7 which of course includes those 2 in the mix.
from 24/7 with that 0 below meaning number of 5* committed to LSU.
LSU 15 0 10 5 90.85 235.29 ?

Of course, I hope/expect this to change quickly but how much could I have won betting that LSU would have a 5* committed for 2015 class, 5* committed for 2016 class, AND a 5* committed for 2017 class (we all know Moses would be if they rated that far in advance) and 0 5* for this class! :wtf:

I'll say this. Mills looked damn good last year as a true Freshman. I don't like talking negative about our players but lets just say he was passed by two new true freshmen this year. In your mind, you think a player will always take a step forward from year to year.
I have a different take on Mills. He has definitely had some bad moments but IMO he has been the recipient of some HORRIBLE safety "help" at times. It is clear on some of his giveups that he definitely expected deep help from the safety that never showed or came late. Loston was the offender a couple of times for sure. White has given up some long TDs also like the one against A&M. Anyway, I dub Jalen Mills this year's version of Danny McCray, the former safety at LSU. Sometimes the guy nearest the defensive bust gets the blame even though he was the one doing his job.

White still gets beat a little more than Mills IMO but I don't care who starts. I am pleased with White, Robinson, and Mills myself. The only guy who unfortunately really didn't belong starting was J Collins. Bring him in when you need extra CBs or to give someone a break but J Collins simply gets beat too much.
To bring this back to recruiting a bit, I think when you play a lot of TR FR like LSU does, that can only help in recruiting. Just this year, these guys have seen action.
T White, R Robinson, Beckwith (did he play in this game?), C Lacouture, Pocic, Jennings, R Jefferson, D Riley, L Neal, M Jones.

I have never agreed with "refs being consistent" in any sport being OK. Soooo, in baseball, the home plate umpire can call balls 1 foot outside the plate as strikes and that is OK....that is as long as they are consistent? :rotflmao:
I know all of this is on the wrong board, but I have to chip in a couple of things. IF a WRer does that (extending his arm straight out from his body time after time after time) as a HC, I would call the ref over to the sideline and say this game is about to get more physical than you have ever seen. Since you don't want to enforce OBVIOUS pass interference, then please don't enforce obvious late hits on Evans. Take control of the game or we will be more than happy to take care of it for you. Danielson and Lundquist said SEC teams have been complaining about Evans and his "technique" the entire year. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, REFS!! IT IS AGAINST THE RULES!
BTW, also congrats to the SEC refs/replay booth for that INCOMPETENT performance on the Jennings QB sneak. Funny, if anyone watched the end of the Vandy-UT game, the EXACT same thing occurred! The Vandy QB ruled short on a 4th down play on a QB sneak that would have lost the game...you couldn't see the ball either but his body position just like Jennings shows he made the 1st down. In that game, they reversed the call. Both Jennings and the Vandy QB made the first down by about 2 feet. They reversed the call in the other game!

Yeah, you reported that exactly right. That was the video where Greg Gilmore was interviewing a couple of guys and Noel Ellis was one of them. And you are correct....Noel Ellis didn't act classless at all like his uncle just did.
