BATON ROUGE, La. – The 12th-ranked LSU women’s basketball team defeats the second-ranked Texas, 70-65, on Sunday afternoon inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 18 to face Oklahoma. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. CT inside the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
With the victory, LSU improves to 16-2 overall, while Texas drops to 18-1 on the season.
The first half was a tightly contested battle as both teams relied on defense to contain one another. The Tigers opened the scoring with a Flau’Jae Johnson three-pointer. Each team traded baskets ending the first quarter in a draw, 11-11. LSU closed the half with Jada Richard’s buzzer, pushing the Tigers to a five-point lead, 30-25, going into intermission. The Tigers shot 38.7 percent on 12-of-31 shots. The Longhorns shot 11-of-27 (40.7%).
LSU pulled ahead in the second half to win the battle. The Tigers shot 38.9 percent from the floor on 14-of-36 shooting, while the Longhorns were 14-of-30 (46.7%). LSU outrebounded Texas 24-27.
Mikaylah Williams led the Tigers with 20 points on 7-of-13 shots and two treys. MiLaysia Fulwiley, Jada Richard, Flau’Jae Johnson and ZaKiyah Johnson had 10 points.
The Longhorns were led by Madison Booker with 24 points on 10-of-16 shots and two treys.
