With Billy Napier's hot seat at Florida continuing to intensify, many have begun the conversation of who could replace him in Gainesville.

This week, ESPN's Mark Schlabach suggested that Lane Kiffin could be among the top candidates to replace Napier. Per The Spun
quote:

“If Florida makes a move, it’s going to be the most coveted job on the market because of its tradition, recruiting base and financial resources in the SEC. Florida AD Scott Stricklin got a three-year contract extension, and he’ll need to get this hire right. He could swing for the fences for Oregon’s Dan Lanning, but I’m guessing it would be difficult to lure him from Nike founder Phil Knight’s checkbook,” Schlabach wrote.

“Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin would be close to the top of the list given his success with quarterbacks and offenses. Kiffin has matured since his days as an offensive coordinator under Nick Saban at Alabama, and he has built a solid program at Ole Miss, where he has a 46-18 record in his sixth season. Kiffin knows the SEC and can recruit well in Florida.”
ESPN writer Adam Rittenberg also says Kiffin could be in the mix at Florida, as well as Missouri's Eliah Drinkwitz

quote:

Kiffin and Drinkwitz certainly make the most sense from within the SEC, as both have some Spurrier in them and fit the offense-centric approach that Florida covets from its coaches.

They're more likely to get Saban's crotchety old arse than they are Lanning.

Kiffin is so comfortable at UM, it’s hard to see him jumping into that Florida shitshow and having to start over there from an organizational and cultural standpoint.

Florida is a monster compared to Ole Miss and they have a ton of talent and a young QB. One good portal haul and they could be a legitimate playoff contender.

I dont think Drinkwitz has the "swagger" UF would be looking for. But given that recruiting base, he would be successful. His teams aren't sloppy or undisciplined.

It is difficult to see a reason Lanning would leave Oregon.

They have 8 of the top 64 recruits for 2026, along with countless other advantages.
