Let me know if you end up going this route - we spent ~45 days in Tulum last year. Had a blast. Spent most of our time in Aldea Zamá (where Airbnb was) and Centro, which was more our speed. Did have a few fantastic dinners (i.e. ARCA, Hartwood, RosaNegra) along beach road / hotel zone, but it's overpriced as absolute hell and completely overrun by Americans and Europeans. Had a much more "authentic" experience (relative, of course, since it is Tulum) in Centro.

Went to Tulum a couple years ago and hired a driver to Chichen Itza. It’s awesome and best with a guide.
Tulum is a artsy, cool town next to a national park and plenty of cenotes.
Great trip except the beaches were covered with seaweed. Pretty much unusable.
