We have been and considering Charleston (been several times) and Wilmington. Thoughts?

Also anyone know the current mask/restrictions from personal experience?

North Carolina has more covid regulations compared to South Carolina. Depending where you are it’s night and day. I don’t think Wilmington would be much fun.

There is not a lot to do in Wilmington even w/o a virus. I would go to Charleston before Wilmington unless you have been to the former and just want to see something new.

But Hilton Head, Savannah, St. Simon, Jekyll Island or St. Augustine would be better than Wilmington; IMO, if you have not been to those. Heck, I would go to Myrtle Beach before Wilmington.

Is there something you want to see or do in Wilmington?

I agree with all of this. Wilmington doesn’t compare to Charleston. NC’s restrictions will determine if you’re sitting outside for restaurants and bars. I don’t think SC has any. In NC you’re supposed to wear a mask until you receive your beverage or food. SC mask wearing seems voluntary or based on the restaurant. I have no problem wearing masks and prefer to in public. Just passing along my experiences.

Just been to all the other places mentioned.

I think we are doing just Charleston or miami/key west over MG.

There is an ease an familiarity with Charleston, but miami/ley west is more exciting since we haven't been. We are more internationally travellers usually.

Wilmington is a cool town with some of the better east coast beaches in the Carolinas. There's the U.S.S. North Carolina battleship museum, Cape Fear Riverwalk and lots of historic mansions, paddle boat cruises, etc. Lots of history from colonial and civil war eras.

Honestly, if I was considering staying in that part of NC, I'd do a day trip to New Bern. Spent a weekend there a couple years ago and it was a wonderful place. Lots of history and some good restaurants. It's about 95 miles from Wilmington but feels like a different world.

I was thinking the same thing. New Bern is way smaller, not really coastal, but pretty unique.

I agree with most of these views (not sure about the better beaches comment) and if someone has been to the higher profile east coast cities then Wilmington is worth a visit. To your list I would add Southport and the ferry to Bald Head Island.

But, even so I don’t know if I would make a trip just to go to Wilmington; maybe cause I don’t live that far from there. Perhaps I’m biased by familiarity.
