Next June/early July. We are going to fly into Calgary and spend our first couple of days there before we head WSW to Banff and then Golden, B.C. where we will stay w/my mum's life-long best friend and her husband for the duration of the trip.

We are planning on seeing the dinosaur museum,(our then 9 year old daughter will be w/us)traveling up the glacier highway, and also Glacier National Park(The Canadian version) .

Any other ideas/suggestions? Especially in/around Calgary. Thanks.

Less time in Calgary and try to fit Jasper in there.

Calgary Stampede starts July 5. If that interests you, that's the bucket list rodeo to see. They have all sorts of other cowboy themed stuff going on there too - concerts, cookouts, exhibits, etc. If it doesn't interest you I would make plans to avoid Calgary that week as it can get crowded.

I would spend at least three or four days in Banff - lots to see and do around there. Just know that parking can be an issue in the summer at main tourist draws - Lake Louise, Lake Morraine, Johnston Canyon. You may have to time your visit to avoid the busy times or use a shuttle service. Weather can be iffy in June, especially as you head north towards Jasper.

Glacier and Yoho NPs can be visited from Golden when you stay there. Kid would probably enjoy a trip to swim in the hot springs too.

If you're looking for a family friendly hike, you can drive up to Sunshine Mountain Lodge and ski resort and ride the ski lift up to Sunshine Meadows where there is an easy but scenic loop trail to hike.

We went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Takes about 1¾ hours. Really interesting displays. Houses one of the world’s largest displays of dinosaurs. Give yourself about two hours to explore.

I only stayed in Golden once for a fly in trip to Fortress Lake. Easy enough to drive over to see Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
