If you are not set in stone on November, you may want to consider another month. November is Tuscany’s rainiest month of the year. We were there 17 days last month, and it rained 16 out of 17. It wasn’t horrible because the rain is light and on/off, but it may be more difficult with 3 kids. There was also flooding in cities outside of Tuscany and the Arno was at its highest level in a long time.

Yeah I know unfortunately, but I appreciate it. November is the best time for us to go for an extended time between work and school schedules. This is one of the reasons I want to stay closer to the big city because it will have more indoor activities.

Greve looks great, my only concern is its 90+ minutes from Pisa and 45+ to Florence and Sienna, whereas if we stay further north and closer to the road between Florence and Sienna we can cut off a lot of that time.

The place I recommended above is just off the main highway between Florence and Siena. One day we did Lucca/Pisa as a day trip. Another day we went to the Cinque Terra and went to all five villages. Those day trips are long but very doable.

Enoteca Falorni

It's a great one but Enoteca La Fortezza in Montalcino is on another level. Of course, it's all about Brunello di Montalcino.

Yeah. That is another great one. It is in Montalcino's ancient fort. Montalcino and Montepulciano are the two hill towns to visit if you are in to wine.

Have any of you rented a car at the Florence SM Novella train station? I read that it is difficult to get in and out of there and that you need an international drivers permit. Which car rental companies did you use? We are spending a few days in Tuscany and figured I would rent a car to get around. Any advice would be appreciated.

Florence is tough to get in and out of because they have lanes that are off limit for use at certain times of the day. It's very confusing if you aren't used to the road signs there. It's a rite of passage to have received a driving violation ticket from Florence months after your trip.

Once you're out of town driving is very easy. The only thing to really keep an eye out for is bicyclists because there are a lot of them.
