Headed to Saints game in Seattle. Thinking about going to Victoria for Saturday. Anyone recommend or not? If you’ve been, what do you recommend in Victoria as must see/do? Will have about 5 hours of free time.

And how is the weather this time of year?

Yep take the Clipper. Very cool old world feel. Beautiful downtown on water. Go do Lunch and Tea.

I highly recommend it. We went up a week early for an Alaskan cruise and divided our time between Victoria and Vancouver, two fantastic places to visit. With 5 hours I would go to Buchert Gardens, or just stroll around town, using the Empress Hotel as your base.

Beautiful cty. Definitely worth a look. As mentioned before, the gardens are lovely. Wife and I took a pedicab tour (about a 3 hour tour), and loved it.

I just visited Victoria last week. 3 days and 2 nights at the Empress. Just the right amount of time. Took the clipper from Seattle which was excellent. You can take a bottle of wine and some Charcuterie and sit back and enjoy the ride (no liquor allowed to be carried on). You should have Tea at the Empress (good but not the best I have had, try The Shelborne in Dublin). A half day to do the gardens at Butchart was nice. Include the extra electric boat cruise and try the gelato before you leave. There are some nice walks along the shore which I would recommend for a half day. That would leave two half days before you board the Clipper again. I would do some bar hopping and breweries for one and then rent a Kayak for the second half day. After this much time, you start to run out of things in Victoria. Whale watching is probably good but we did not do that. Also, the golf course looks nice if you play.

We took a seaplane there just for the day, highly recommend if you have the stomach for it. We did a whale watching tour and saw lots of seals walruses and orcas that came right up to the boat. Walked around downtown/the gardens/ate and came back. Nice day trip... bring your passport. Also make sure no one in your party has ever had a dwi or they won’t be let in

I’ve been and, while it’s nice, the Buchart Gardens (the biggest attraction) won’t look that great in the fall. With a free day, you may enjoy checking out some of the the World War 2 sites in the state parks on Whidby Island- they have old pill boxes, bunkers, etc.

Did you really see walruses there?! They typically dwell much farther North, so I’ve never considered them something I could see while wildlife watching in that area. I will be camping around there in the fall (San Juan Islands), and I’d like to keep a look out. Are you sure they were walruses? If so, did any sort of guide or local express surprise at seeing them/comment on their rarity?

You may be right, could have been sea lions, they were on an uninhabited island that we drove by in the boat and it smelled horrible. I’d have to go through old pictures, this was 2009 I think when LSU played up there

I spent two nights there as part of a two week trek from Portland, Mt Ranier, Seattle, Victoria to Vancouver. Would have liked another night. I loved it.

I wouldn’t do the gardens as recommended above as that takes at least 4-5 hours.

Tea. Stroll around and see the city. Get a pint in a pub.
