I’ll probsbly post this to the MSB but thought that I would check here first. Any suggestions for a first time visitor? Day session or night sesssion? Which court? Matchup dependent on seeds? Will be up very early in the tourney (likely day one or two). Going more for the experience as opposed to seeing a particular player or top seed. Worth it?

I went once.

Take the train out there. When you get off the train, buy your ticket for the return before leaving the station.

That way you can pass up all the idiots buying their ticket back and just get on when the day is over.

I will be there sept 1-7. First time as well. I bought a few different sessions about 2 months ago and prices have increased since then. Use the Ticketmaster ticket exchange to buy tickets. I’ve read that you Should not buy the upper level at Arthur ash. Basically you would be watching ants play.

I'm gonna get some shite on here, but when I think US Open I immediately think of tennis in NYC. It's a great experience, try and get an many autographs as you can. Got Venus and Serena's at the american express tent. If you have amex, use that to buy your tickets since everything is amex based there.

Day games will be hot, but more matchups and ability to move court to court. One year we had a great match on the secondary court (not arthur ashe, can't remember the name tho...) that lasted for overtime in every set. 3 1/2 hrs for one match . It's tough to have a bad time, just go and enjoy

Day session in the early rounds allows you more flexibility to see more players up close. Night session, you only get 2 matches and it's super expensive to get remotely close. I've sat up top and it's not bad, but nothing beats going to the side courts and watching players ranked in the teens from less than 30 feet away

Thanks to all for the info. Looks like we are going to go on day one and buy an Ashe or Armstrong day session reserved seat. My understanding is that ticket will allow access to any of the other courts. And is more likely to be shaded with coverage in the event of rain. Day instead of night because more matches are being played and better for my schedule. Got a lot of info here:

Any thoughts to the contrary? Not looking to break the bank.

I just bought R16 day session tickets today in the grandstand. That is the same website I used as well. I'm hoping I get lucky with the matchups.

Saw a TON of tennis today. Bought reserved seat in Ashe for day session. It gave me general admission to every other stadium for day and night. Only drawback was not getting to see Serena or Nadal tonight. Nadal would have been too late for me anyway.

Saw Venus and Warinka. Saw Azarenka in Armstrong. Steve Johnson from a few rows up. A great third set between two women on court six. And parts of several others. Missed Murray, Stephens and the Halep upset. Just too much going on.

Thoughts:

Day ticket was way to go.

Find and/or buy some shade. If going to Ashe during the day, make damn certain you are in the shade (can find this on line).

Download the app.

Shits expensive. $6.50 water and $11+ beers add up. Water refills throughout park. Food was pricey but good.

The 7 train is the way to go.

Anything else I’ll add in tomorrow. Very cool experience.

331. Here is the shade map that I used.

https://www.roadto45tennis.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/New-Armstrong-Shade-Map.png

I was in the west side towards the north corner. Would have been fine northwest, southwest or south. Those poor bastards in the east never got a break. North got a lot of early sun.

I know you can leave the stadium at any time. I think you are asking if you can leave the grounds and return. I don’t know the answer to that.

They moved the line quickly getting people back in. There are separate lines for bags and no bags. The with bag line looked a lot longer but the one person in our group with a bag went through quickly. A few of us actually got pulled out of the no bag line and given priority passage (we skipped to the front of rhe line basically). My only guess why is the blue and yellow ticket we have because they guy said something about blue/yellow but I really have no clue.

One more point, the women are a lot more fun to watch. Not only for the obvious reason, but the tennis is more exciting. Rallies are much longer, greater shot variety, etc. and despite the points being longer, the matches are generally shorter. Though the best one we saw all day was Venus and lasted 2:55.

How was the view at the top? I am going to have to buy high up seats one session because I screwed up and bought Armstrong tickets instead of ash one day and the armstrong tickets arent selling. I am hoping I could move down to empty seats in the high up session if there is alot empty.

I don’t think there is a bad seat. We were very satisfied with our view. Row M. And one in my group would have let me know if it was unsatisfactory.

Almost certain we could have moved down. A lot of available seats. There are ushers but no one looked at our tics. Not sure if that changes in the better seats.
