I haven't flown into MSY since before ride share was a thing. A friend of mine is going to NOLA for the first time (flying solo) and I'd like to give her some pointers if possible. Is it a shite show to get a Lyft/Uber? Any other options? Thanks!

ETA: She will be arriving at 2pm on a Thursday

No other great options unless her hotel has a shuttle. Uber should cost about $30. Very easy to get an Uber. The pickup area is outside baggage, second lane form the building.

There is a public but (RTA Airport Express) that runs from the terminal directly to the CBD. The bus is safe, clean, cost $1.25 and takes 25-30 minutes with no traffic. At peak times the bus has to deal with interstate traffic like everyone else so it takes longer.

The only real drawback is it only runs once every 80-85 minutes so its not always good if there are time limitations. When I was working more downtown and had late morning to mid-afternoon flights it was awesome. Coming into town if someone is traveling in solo and heading downtown they can grab 2 $10 beers after landing before heading to catch the bus and still end up spending half the money of a rideshare or cab.

There is also a local Jefferson Transit bus with an airport stop, but that bus runs down Airline Highway, doesn't go all the way to the CBD anymore, and drops you off at the streetcar in mid-city so its not a great option anymore unless you want the super local 1.5 hour trip experience.

Otherwise, the minimum uber/cab fare is $36 now, so you are at $40+ after tip with no surge. Also if uber/lyft is surging just go to the cab line, they all take credit cards and its a flat rate to the CBD/Uptown.

Taxi line is the pro move if uber/lyft have any surge or wait.

Pretty much a pro move at all airports now that they got their shite somewhat together and universally take CCs.

Everyone is herding into the apps so in many places a taxi stand is almost no wait at all.

People so taxi adverse you'll walk right by a bunch of people staring into the phone waiting on their uber to arrive in 10 minutes.

Agreee. And I’ll add to that. Many airports have fixed flat rates to the different areas of a city. I usually will pull up Uber/Lyft and will check pricing and see how it compares to the taxi rate. It’s not uncommon to see the taxi rate below due to no surges.

Taxi, as already mentioned, is the way to go from MSY. We always Lyft to the airport and take a taxi from the airport.
