Looking to spend a couple of weeks in Japan around the Tokyo area next year. Looking for recommendations on where to stay, eat, see, etc.

Plan to fly into Narita and stay in the Shinjuku area for the first half of the trip and Osaka for the second half of the trip. Potentially fly back out of Kansai. Anyone done go this route? My thoughts were to do day trips taking the high speed rail to places like Hakone, Nara, Kyoto, etc.

Have friends coming with but not sure how many at this point. Our dates are too far out to book anything at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Christmas light displays, for sure. I'm not sure exactly which one I stumbled across after a work event, but it was pretty neat. Most of them seem to start in early Nov in the Tokyo area.

You could also hop a flight to Hokkaido, they carve giant dragons and stuff out of snow as a part of a competition each year, although I don't recall when. Parents just showed me pictures, didn't take us kids, they left us in Sagami Otsuka.

LINK I would spend first night at Narita Hilton. Prices are usually reasonable. They run a shuttle bus from airport to hotel to narita town and mall. There is a very large Buddhist temple complex you can walk to from Narita town. Very interesting. The trains from Narita Airport to Central Tokyo stop in Narita town.

Kyoto during fall foliage would be pretty sweet.
