I've connected through several times. The skyline of Panama City is gorgeous, I love landing there with a window seat on the left side of the plane to get a good view of the canal and city.

I don't know anything about the city, that's not my thing. But the canal zone is not far away and has some of the best tropical wildlife in the world. The canal zone is 10 miles wide and is pristine rainforest that is now a national park. It's a better place to see birds/monkeys/sloths than Costa Rica. But Panama is much more limited when it comes to tourism infrastructure.

The veneto hotel and casino is a nice place. Lots of cool things to do there after dark.

Wife is interested in going.

Everything I have read says that by Latin American standards, it is a very well off, stable, extremely safe country and city, with a great night life, cool stuff to see etc

I went in 2015, outside of Panama City there was poverty the likes of which Id never seen and I was a bit taken aback. I think I falsely thought of it as some corporate money haven and didnt think it was still Central America. We were safe but I was a bit hesitant to let a kid take my backpack in some village and take it to the small boat we were taking to an island for the day. That may be on me but felt weird.

PC itself is modern, we found a cab driver in the old town, paid him 20 dollars and he didnt leave our side, took us to canal overlook, to get ceviche, and around town for a little while. We took a boat out to one of the Pacific Islands but that was a little disappointing, trash in water, etc, but there are better options (live and learn). We hiked in the closest National Park to the city, great views of city, saw a sloth but just one, and saw a million leaf cutter ants all along the way... wont lie their highway systems were mezmorizing to watch. Best part of the hike was 1) view and 2) the leaf cutter ants.

Worth it for a decent price but keep in mind PC is on Pacific coast and mostly mud flats when tide goes out. Caribbean coast has nicer water but more poverty.

Was there in 2016 for three days and really liked it. The Casco Antiguo area is really pretty. Panama City was burned in 1670 when the pirate Henry Morgan attacked it, and so much of it was built right after that. This part of Panama City is the only place in the world where there have been multiple places where I could pretend (based on the architecture) that I was in the French Quarter.

The canal is fascinating, of course. It's fun to watch ships go through, and the attached museum is also interesting.

I really enjoyed Sobernia National Park. I saw an incredible variety of wildlife, from stunning blue morpho butterflies, to motmots, to monkeys, to toucans. I do not believe that there is anywhere else in the world that such pristine rainforest exists 30 minutes away from skyscrapers. This is the place that holds the world's record for most bird species seen in a single day.

Wife and I got back from a Panama trip last month. Stayed in Casco Viejo for 2 nights. Really enjoyed that area. Great food, bars, and you can see the cool city skyline by the water.

Flew to Bocas Del Toro for 6 days afterwards and really enjoyed it. No AC in our units, but managed. Just hopped to a different beach each day and drank.

Flew back to Panama City and stayed in a nice hotel. We were ready for integrating back into civilization and air condition.

Overall, I highly recommend a trip down there. Everyone was super friendly, felt safe, great food (mostly PC), and checked another Central American country off our checklist.
