Tennessee State Parks and Lodging : now and future openings

Tennessee is a beautiful state when you get outside the cities, at least that's my opinion because I think cities just aren't all that wonderful to look at.
Tennessee has so many state parks and many of them have reasonably priced lodges. As the world waits for reopenings, you might want to consider our state parks and some of our river and other mountain locations.
All but three Tennessee State Parks are open (with some limitations)
It's only fair that I also recommend state lodges in West Virginia, Kentucky and Alabama from personal experiences. None of these are five star, but they don't need to be. All of them are good value for money and in interesting places-some for the beauty, some for history, even some for golf.
We've done some state historic site specific minor trips, through Alabama looking at the war of 1812, western Pennsylvania for the early days of George Washington's career, even following the Lincoln Highway west from PA through Ohio.

Hope you see this response. I'm looking to take a week vacation this year with the old lady. We want to do a couple days in Nashville, and the rest in the mountains. We did Gatlinburg last year, which was fun, but we'd rather spend our time in the outdoors than fighting the crowds. Any rec's on mountains not too far from Nashville?

There is the plateau which has some hilly areas near Nashville, but the mountains are on the east side of the state.
