I am trying to plan a summer lake house trip. I love the GA mountains like Blue Ridge and surrounding areas. However, I will have a 6 month old plus a 3.5 and 2 year old and dont think I want to drive 10 hours.

So I have been looking at other options and Canyon Lake interests me. I feel like its right in the middle of tons of different things to do and see.

Would this be a fun summer vacation spot staying on the lake?

The only thing I know about Canyon Lake is that we spotted about 20 deer driving through a couple miles of residential area between the highway and the Lake. They didn't seem to be all that scared of us, and honestly, I'm pretty sure it was more than 20. I only threw out that number because it already seems like I'm exaggerating. I've never seen anything like it.

Sorry, baw. That's all I've got.

it isnt great but it probably has more to do in the surrounding areas than rural GA (maybe)

you can always take them to schlitterbahn for the day

Canyon Lake is great. Beautiful lake with some nice small towns around it.

You’re 30-45 minutes from a ton of stuff. San Antonio, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels and Austin.

I'd kill for a summer home at Canyon Lake. It's hot as hell, but not sure rural Georgia would be much cooler in summer.

Canyon Lake has great views, tubing on the Guadalupe, nice campsites, a fun music venue at Whitwater, and easy access to all the small towns in Hill Country, with their distilleries, wineries, and breweries. I don't know shite about rural Georgia, but would love to have a house in that area

Grew up near there. Not a fan. It’s sort of crappy and small. Also you to account for drought years in Texas (a pretty frequent thing) that drop lake levels dramatically.

...and with the increasing numbers of Mexicans and illegals in the southern part of the state it is a little too far south for my taste.

If you want Texas lakefront take a look at Possum Kingdom.

Look at the Carolinas.

Get a house in Wimberley on the Blanco or Cypress Creek instead.

Any given year you can’t rely on the water being there in Canyon Lake. In Georgia you can.
