Margaritaville is the newest.
Horseshoe probably next best.

The downtown Hilton is nice too and a short walk to the Gentlemen's Club.

El Dorado and Horseshoe are my usual places. The Hilton is downtown as well but I prefer the casinos very a decent meal and lame entertainment.
Jimmy Buffet's places is newer but the other 2 are my preference. Horseshoe has karaoke on tuesday, so there's that.
Godspeed

Agree with Margaritaville and Horseshoe being the best casinos.
Hilton Downtown, Remington Downtown, Wyndham on 70th, or Hampton on Millicent would be my choices for a hotel. The first two are really nice hotels. The latter two fit your “plenty to do in small radius” need.

Ive stayed at The Hilton downtown Shreveport and The Mariott at the Boardwalk. I enjoyed being able to walk out of The Marriott and finding plenty to do within walking distance and not having to drive anywhere.

Download the "hotel tonight" app in the app store.
You can get a room at the horseshoe for like $65. If you turn location services on it will take off a couple of bucks.
