San Diego or San Francisco

Planning a 30th anniversary trip to either San Diego or San Francisco. Going to fly in and rent a car to make a side trip to Kings Canyon and Seqouia National Park. I have a cool looking bed and breakfast booked for a couple of nights there. Leaving late May from Houston, driving over to catch a Red Sox Astro's game first, staying 7 days total in Cal. Any suggestions and or recommendations? Thank you.

Weather will be much better in SD, SF has much more interesting shite to see.

i would go with san francisco, more to do and see. san diego is nice, but if you want more than just weather and beaches NorCal is the place to be.
besides the city, from san francisco you have easy access to muir woods (worth the drive), you can take a day trip up to napa/sonoma, or down to half-moon bay. for a longer adventure big sur and even lake tahoe are only 3 hour drives from san francisco.

We went to SF for our 25th anniversary, stayed about a week, and been to SD 4 times for ~ 20 days total. I like SD a lot but if I had not been to either one I would go to SF.
We did all the typical tourist stuff; Alcrataz, Coit Tower, cable cars, Chinatown, wine country day trip, fisherman’s wharf, etc. Alcrataz is probably the best of these but they’re all good unless you just don’t want to be a typical tourist.
We did take a ferry to Sausalito and had a very good meal there. The last day we drove to Monterey and Carmel and then back to the airport to catch the red eye home. I recommend both of these.

Both cities have their charms, but I would probably pick SF for an anniversary too. Flying into or out of Fresno will cut down your travel time. We flew into Fresno several years ago when visiting Kings Canyon/Seqouia and then flew out of SFO after ending our trip in SF.
Also, depending how far into June your trip extends, San Diego has it's "June Gloom". A fog that comes off the sea every morning and hangs around into the afternoon. We experienced the phenomenon when we were there. You could drive east, across the mountains, and have clear blue sky's, but SD was gray. Late afternoons and evenings were usually okay.
