Road Trip to Des Moines, IA

I’m going to Des Moines to pick up a dog in July and I’m wondering if it’s worth driving to see some site. Is there anything worth while to stop and see in Iowa? I’m a big fan of NW Arkansas but that may take a more time then I have/have planned.

You can always visit John Wayne's birth place and museum in Winterset, if that is in your bailiwick.

Maid-Rite in Lamoni, Iowa right off of I-35. The Maid-Rite (loose meat sandwich) is worth the drive in itself. Also, eat at Jethro's in Des Moines. Their pork tenderloin and sandwiches like the Jethro are outstanding.

I’ve been to Iowa in July and in Dec (coincidentally to pick up a dog). Winter sucks. July was very pretty with all the corn fields. Field of Dreams is worth a stop if you are close by.
