Like others have said, finding a hotel will be tough since it's spring break for a lot of Texas schools. There are some crappy motels in Presidio that I have stayed at. They are small rooms but OK for a night. If you make it to Presidio, eat mexican at the Oasis, some of the best Mexican I have ever had. I ate there over Thanksgiving this year for the 2nd time and it was just as good as I remembered.

drive to panther junction then to chisos lodge, go to visitors center, hike the chisos loop (1.8mi) and the window view (0.3mi).
-drive the ross maxwell scenic drive from chisos to castalon and santa elena, hike santa elana.
-drive the old maverick road nack to maverick junction
-drive to terlingua and see the ghost town, eat & drink there

Will I be able to get good shots of the River, mountains and desert with these treks?

I would spend that time in the park. Prada Marfa is actually outside of Valentine TX about 26 miles or so from Marfa. It would be about a two and half hour drive or more from the west side of the park.

Stay at the the Paisano Village RV Park & Inn. The have La Casitas across the street. It’s newly built and a really nice place to stay. The owners are super nice.

If you have a 4wd vehicle, fill up the tank and drive River Road. Take some of the “unmaintained” roads. They’re fun and have good scenery. Black Gap Road is a good one.

I wouldn't make a 2 1/2 hour drive to see it. But if you're in Marfa it's only 30 minutes so I have done that. I was at the Prada over Thanksgiving and turned around and got this Pic.

Funny enough, when we traversed the country we’d never heard of this. The wife was asleep in the car when we passed it by happenstance. I did a double take and was like wtf was that: random building with several folks doing glamour shots around it.

Looked it up later and showed the wife. She was pissed she missed it and I didn’t stop. Oops

Basecamp Terlingua

We stayed here in the one of small adobe cabins when we went in Feb 2019.
Drove in to the park did Santa Elena canyon and the windows.

Loved it so we went back in August, stayed at the chisos mt lodge which was empty. 60 degrees up there at night, 107 at Santa Elena canyon. Did another hike up by the lodge, lost mines maybe? On the first trip we spent a night in Marfa, and 1 in fort Davis. Went to the observatory for a star party, but it was so cold up there it got old quickly. As others have stated, there are scenic drives getting to and within the park.

Just wan to circle back and say "Thank you" to those who contributed to this thread.

I saw the Window View and Santa Elena Canyon, and it was awesome.

I saw in the movie "Boyhood" that the characters in the film were able to walk through the canyon, but when I was there, water was running through it. This means:

A) The area of land filmed was different from where I was
B) The water I saw isn't always there and will dry up later in the year

Again, thank you.

right now water is running high from a scheduled release in Mexico. It won’t last much longer. When we were there in October the kayak trip we did in the river was wild
