PORT NOLA has had some plans to turn the old Naval Support Activity on Poland Avenue into a third cruise terminal. This would be part of a multi-use development. The current NSA buildings are an eyesore in a part of town that is otherwise gentrifying.

Currently, some ships who are using the city as a port stop (not an embarkation/debarkation) tie up at the dock there and sometimes overnight as well.

I had read that the larger cruise ships can't be accommodate at Erato / Julia terminals, and that this could be built to accommodate them.

Just curious if anyone had any inside info on if this plan is still being considered.

I just got off the Norweiegen Breakaway in NOLA with 4500 of my closest friends. They're only a few ships bigger that that.

They would need some major renovations to accommodate a cruise terminal there. There is no parking and you'd need a whole new terminal built. Not to mention the location is lacking. Not exactly a way to get tourist into the area.

There are two massive parking garages at the NSA site. There's also plenty of office space, that I would assume could be converted into a terminal, although some new construction might be necessary as well.

As far as the location, yeah, I get that. However, it's no further away from the quarter than Galveston's terminal is to tourist areas, or PortMiami's is to theirs.

What I'm really surprised is, that they dock boats there now for overnights.

I cannot imagine the hissy fit the people in the Bywater would throw if you start pumping thousands of tourists in and out of there every week.

It would radically change the character of that area, and gentrification would spread.

How was it? I booked the Getaway (Breakaway twin) next year out of NOLA but then read mixed reviews after I booked.
