Looking at potentially taking a vacation to Malta next summer and didn't see any information on Malta in the stickied thread.
If anyone has been, pros/cons? Must do / must avoid?
Thanks

Malta is awesome. Better to go in late May to avoid the hordes of drunk, UK tourists. Must sees- the heritage Malta sites of ancient history (reserve Hypogeum in advance). Spend a couple days on Gozo. Two days walking around Valetta is enough. Do archaeology museum in Valetta before the ancient sites. See Rabat and Mdina and use ecabs (their Uber) to get around. Don’t worry about being a foodie there- it’s not the island’s strong suit. I like the Westin as a base on the main island and the Kempinski on Gozo.

That would be a safe assumption

I haven’t been, but my exceptionally well traveled cousin spent part of last winter there. He cut his visit short, told me that Valletta felt slightly sleazy and menacing. Dunno much beyond that....except that it’s one of the cheapest places to get an EU passport via citizenship through investment.

I would not worry about this one bit. Malta is one of the safest countries I’ve been to (out of 55). They do have some problems with migrant crime, but those communities are easy to spot and avoid. If you have questions, ask your driver- they’ll help. If you are very worried, just chill out on Gozo most of the time.

malta is interesting but it is HOT in the summer. when we were there a sand storm from the Sahara was occurring and it affected Valletta. felt like flea bites on exposed skin. very historic though. go for it.
