Kind of throwing together a last minute trip for my son and myself in a couple of weeks. He wants to do Legoland. I don't want anything to do with Orlando, so I thought maybe we'd check out Tampa. Anyone here have any recommendations for areas to seek out or avoid as far as accomodations?

Not sure about Ybor with a Legoland-age child. Might be nice for a dinner, but you might not want to stay there.

There are some nice new hotels in the Rocky Point area. This is on the water, but not the beach. It sort of splits the difference between downtown Tampa and Clearwater. Also close to TPA if you are flying.

I find everything in Tampa is at least 15 minutes from where you are, so just be prepared to spend some time in the car.

Head over to beach. Ft Desoto is great with an old fort, beach, kayak, etc…

More beach town vibe hit up Indian Rocks Beach

if your kid is into Legoland, then consider Busch Gardens, the Zoo or Tampa Aquarium. The zoo is legit one of the best in the country. The aquarium is a decent bang for the buck at $30. Our favorite beach as a family was Fort Desoto. Pass a Grille was another great one when it's just a couple people.

I always tell people to stay away from Clearwater because of the crowds and traffic. It's a nice beach, but there's no reason to go there when there are so many other great beaches in the area.

Tampa airport is easy to fly in and out of. Downtown Tampa recently opened a JW Marriot which is quite nice. If you want to stay in St Pete there are plenty of hotels but the Don Cesar is quite nice. Recommend dinner at the Columbia in Ybor. If you like baseball check the Rays schedule. Tickets for good seats are really cheap compared to other stadiums.

Busch Gardens is a fun time too. It really depends on what you and your kid like to do. The weather is hot and humid in June and is rains a lot so just be ready for that.

Renting a house on a small lake near the Hard Rock. We'll probably try to hit the beach for a day or two. A gentleman I work with recommended Honeymoon Island for a quieter place? Appreciate all of the recommendations.
