Best suggestions? Galveston is....well, Galveston. Kids are small, 3 and 1. Wife prefers beach areas. Willing to drive 3-4 hrs. What's going to be my best bet?

Corpus Christi is a little over 4 hours I think.

Matagorda Beach is an option

Unless you rent one of those houses I would stay away from Galveston.

Not a beach, but have you thought about the hill country resorts? Like Hyatt Lost Pines, Hyatt Hill Country or the JW Marriott resort in San Antonio? They have great pools, lazy rivers, water slides, golf, spas, etc. They play movies outdoors at night and have s'mores for the kids to make as well.
Lost Pines is 2 hours away from Houston door to door. Super easy long weekend trip.
