Last minute flight to Austin, TX

I just found out that I need to make a trip to Austin, TX from Thursday, 4/25 - Sunday 4/28. Should I book a flight now or wait until closer to time?
Flights now are in the $600-$650 range out of Columbia, SC with a layover in either Atlanta or Charlotte. I rarely fly, maybe once per year, and it is always for a planned vacation. TIA.

Can’t imagine it will get much cheaper.
For reference, you should check right now to see what a flight would cost for this Thur to Sunday.

I'd book now, you're just about at the 2 week mark. Prices will likely only go up from here plus you're looking at two of the busiest business travel days (thursday and sunday). Last minute business flyers will snag up those cheaper fares by the end of this week and you'll likely be stuck paying more.
If you want to drive to Atlanta, it's only $300

Saw that about Atlanta, but I don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving there. Friday-Sunday is a little cheaper, just worried I will have a hang up and not arrive by the 2pm required time.
ETA: Why would flights next weekend be so much cheaper? Columbia to Austin for next Thurs - Sunday are $415ish. Figured they would be higher on a holiday.

Orthodox good friday and orthodox easter? Arbor day? Passover? Many different explanations possible, if the flight loads are high then airlines have no problem jacking up the prices to fill the remaining seats unfortunately

The San Antonio airport is only about 70 miles away. May want to check out flights into S.A.

Good luck. We are heading to Austin for a wedding in May and couldn't find anything cheaper than 500 round trip and that was with months of lead time. Demand to travel in Austin is high. See similar prices going to Portland for example.

Dropped a little today, down about $60. I am probably just going to book as is. Was hoping to find something around $400.
