The worst hotels vs the best hotels on the strip are not worth the price difference per night. I'm only there to sleep. What are you getting at $400 more per night for?

If this was the case, there would be no luxury hotels anywhere in the world. Your example works for any vacation destination. I don’t want my family and I slumming at one of the trashiest hotels on the strip. I want to stay at a nice hotel.

Im with you. I guess it depends on how often you go. I go a few times a year and id rather stay somewhere cheaper. The difference in price between harrahs or excaliber and somewhere like the venetian for a 3 night trip is almost enough to fund another trip.

I stayed at excaliber this weekend and it wasnt bad at all. The decor was a little dated but the room was clean and the beds comfortable. I like the location also.

33. I travel about 4 times a year and each trip is usually 10-14 days. I'm not a sit around the resort kind of person either. I just want a clean place to stay while exploring.

I personally hate Vegas and I only go there since it's cheap place to fly to and rent a car on my way to hiking somewhere.

For us, absolutely. There’s zero comparison staying at resort world, Cosmo, or Aria to the Luxor or Excalibur.

I used to travel for my former corporate job 25 weeks out of the year, I’ll be damned if I’m going to choose to stay in a shithole for personal travel.

Nicer room, better clientele, better service, better pool, etc. again, if everyone thought like you there would be no reason for luxury hotels.

That’s like going to London and staying in a shite hotel because you’re not going to be in the room but to sleep. That’s a college dorm room mentality I grew out of a long time ago

To each their own. I think you're overspending on things that are not worth $500 a night when I can spend $65 a night at the Linq. I think the correct ratio would be around $200 a night at the Wynn. Anything over that and you're wasting your money.

It’s not wasting money when it’s part of the overall experience. I’m also past the point in life where I’m penny pinching here and there. I don’t look at spending 800/night as sacrificing a future trip or additional experiences on the same trip. I’m just at a point in life where I want to experience the best of everything. Some would probably say there’s no reason to go to Prime steak house or Nobu when you can just eat much cheaper elsewhere.

I’ve done the Vegas trips in my 20s where we crammed in rooms at MGM grand and ate at the food courts. I’m just not at that point anymore.

Why pay $400 a night at an expense hotel when you can simply walk in and enjoy?

I've never paid $400 a night anywhere in Vegas. You stay at a nicer place so that you aren't with the Walmart crowd at the Excalibur/Luxor.

I'd truly recommend staying somewhere closer to the middle of the strip. While yes, you can gamble anywhere, you tend to settle in at your own resort for the night so you can just go upstairs to bed and generally, you get a nicer crowd at a more expensive hotel. In Vegas, cheap generally equals trashy.

When is the last time you have been to vegas? 400 is gonna be the minimum per night without the resort fees for some of the mid level hotels. 6-700 a night for the top ones.

Ive been to just about every resort on the strip and outside of circus circus I havent noticed a huge discrepency in trashiness of the clientele. Its america, pretty much everyone is fat and has tattoos.

Maybe its the way that I do vegas so it doesnt matter, but I typically plan out what im gonna see each night and where I am gonna eat. I dont know. I just havent seen anything at the high end resorts that make me think its worth spending an extra $1500 a trip to stay there. Not like we talking burj al arab level service. But like the other guy said, some people dont mind paying it, me personally Id rather save on the hotel because as long as my bed and room is semi clean I am good.

My wife and I stayed at Mandalay Bay in June and enjoyed it. It is at the end of the strip and not a short walk to the center of the strip but there is a tram that will get you much closer to the center. It tends to be a little less expensive room wise but the rooms are very nice. Someone mentioned the bars there are very expensive but there isn't a cheap bar in LV.

I've been to Vegas a LOT. My rooms are comped. But you don't have to gamble nearly as much as you think to get comped rooms or at least decent prices. My trips are usually 3 days and the most I've ever lost is $700 total. It's easy to get comped rooms.

I've stayed a lot at the Luxor. It was my dad's favorite place to play. 2nd favorite was Excalibur. I've watched the crowd get worse and worse over the years. I would always stay mid strip if it's my choice. I'd even rather Harrahs or the Flamingo than the south end. It's dead.

I've stayed at almost all the resorts. Excalibur is trashy. People are trying to decide if they can afford another $100 in the slot machine. There's a ton of kids there running around.

For what it's worth, my favorite place, the Mirage, will be no longer. Bellagio is my 2nd favorite. I'm not an Aria fan. It's not got much personality. The Wynn and the Venetian are nice, but they are pricy and it's harder to get comps there. They are also not center strip.

Because you are staying at trashy places. To imply that someone who gambles is trashy is just not accurate.

Trashy people aren’t playing 100 minimums on tables at the higher end casinos. They are playing 5 dollar hands at Luxor and NYNY

Go to the casino floor at resort world or the Venetian. Then go to NYNY or Luxor and compare.
