The Just a Few Friends Festival is in its second year (?) and is a Jimmy Buffet kind of tribute every LBD weekend. It’s much better than the “meeting of the minds” that used to take place after fantasy fest.
Most of the suggestions hit all the top spots. Blue Heaven or Banana Cafe for breakfast (though I really enjoy dinner at BH as well)
Lattitudes is a decent lunch voyage. I often go to Pepe’s and then to the Bait Shop for a few. The Bait Shop is across from Half Shell. Day drinking has lots of options, Conch Farm has somehow gotten more tacky. My favorite is the Tree Bar mostly because of the people that hang there regularly like Big Ed from the Tuna or Jay “the bacon” man.
Hanks is decent, but it’s changed a lot. Smokin Tuna will be open 9/3 after a two year legal battle. It’s opening where Hard Rock used to be. I’m sure Cliff Cody will be playing all weekend.

So for anyone that cares, here's how the trip ended up:
Thursday:
Stayed at Hotel Croydon at Miami Beach (I love that place). Super nice hotel with a small, but also nice pool. Flight got delayed a bit so didn't get in until late. Ended up eating at the STK Steakhouse and their 10 oz filet was good.
Friday:
Had breakfast at the Tavern in the hotel which was good. Relaxed on the beaches near the hotel, then in the afternoon walked around Washington Avenue/South Beach and had a coffee, then a beer at the Abbey Brewing Company, then ate at Esquina Cubana (by far the best Cuban sandwich I ever had. Place was amazing) before driving to Key West.
Saturday:
We stayed at the Havana Cabana. Really relaxing place with a very nice pool. We basically just hung out on Duval Street/the city before the LSU game. Got a coffee at Sandy's Cafe and went to the Southernmost point area to hang out. Went to Hemingway House and Mel Fisher Museum. Both were cool and I LOVED the Mel Fisher Museum. Then walked down Duval Street and had a drink at Bourbon Street Pub (had to) and Sloppy Joe's before eating at the Half Shell Raw Bar. Decent Oysters and Grouper I had. Then we watched the game at the hotel. They had a TV right by the pool so we enjoyed the arse whooping.
Sunday:
Had a coffee at the Cuban Coffee Queen then went to the Fort Zachary Taylor which was small but thought was cool. Went to the beach in the state park which was okay. Then we did the Fury Catamaran to do some snorkeling in the Florida Coral Reefs (didn't realize it was 3rd biggest in the world). It is was spectacular. I hadn't done any snorkeling in a long time so that was cool. We did the late afternoon session so we were able to see the sunset back on the boat which was beautiful. We went to the Frita Burger place after which had an amazing Frita Burger (their empanadas was the best thing they had though).
Monday:
Hung by the pool in the morning and basically slowly made our way to Miami. Went to the beaches at the Bahia Honda State Parks which were nice. Then drove to the Dive Bar on the Bay in Key Largo for a couple drinks. Our flight was very very late Monday night so we hung out in Little Havana before our flight back. Went to Ball & Chain for live music and a mojito before going to Old's Havana which had amazing food. Then we flew back.
Overall:
Had an amazing time. Enjoyed both areas, but you all were right. I figured I would enjoy Key West though, but honestly I enjoyed Miami more. Miami was just an all around fun time every second I was there. I just wasn't sure what to think because I've had friends and family go and they either absolutely loved it or hated it. Count me in the love crowd and I will definitely be back sooner than later. I am very glad I was able to make it to the Keys though. Been wanting to go forever. Maybe I will go back for a fishing excursion.
