So we stopped at Jackson Lake Lodge for a 22oz beer apiece. The view at sunset (9PM) was worth the wait.
That last picture is the view from here?

Thanks for the follow-ups. It’s getting me pumped for my trip. We leave this Saturday for a full week. 3 nights in Jackson and 4 nights in West Yellowstone…we ready to do some hiking

Yes. The views from the patio at the lodge are incredible. I like it better than Dorman’s because the lake gives the mountains a great context for pics. With that said, everything here is picture worthy.
Slept in today. Ate brunch at Persophone’s. It’s a frufru place for your lady to eat. The tomato jam was very good.
Then we hit Grand Teton Village. Lots of people from all over the world are here. The tram is shut down, but they are offering gondola rides up to the near top. Mountain bikers everywhere. We rode to the top and I took a ‘moderate’ level hike to the top according to the AllTrails app. After hiking it, I feel I need to talk to the developers…….
The kids in the pic were hiking 40 miles to Jenny Lake over 4 days. This was by far the most challenging part of their trip. I made it in a golf shirt and running shoes…….

Here’s a better one my wife took. I could sit on the deck all damn day. For real.
Lake Jenny tomorrow and fly fishing on Thursday.

How adept are you with hiking? I did the hike up to Delta Lake which includes views of the Grand Teton among other peaks. This is definitely top 3 most beautiful places I've ever hiked to. Blue water, remote, and incredible backdrop. Warning, the hike is not easy and encompasses some scrambling up boulders, but damn is it worth it. There were some kids and people who have no business making the trek so it is doable. If you have time, try to fit it in your schedule.

My wife is the problem with the hikes. I run 20-40 miles a week, she doesn’t.
FYI: There is a staged shootout every evening in Jackson near the square at 6PM. We rolled up to have a beer at Cowboy Bar and heard all the fake shooting and saw the big crowds. We didn’t check it out.
Five stars to the Blue Lion. Food and service here were amazing. Highly recommend the beef filet if you have a chance. My lamb was great, but you have to like mint jelly. The Melvin IPA is also delicious.

We have Delta Lake planned for day 2 of our trip next week. Debating on if we should add Amphitheater and Surprise Lakes as well.
Did you attempt? If so, which order should we go with? Delta seems more technical but A/S seems more strenuous.

Thanks for sharing the pics, the scenery is incredible.

This thread is really making me miss the Tetons/Yellowstone. Been far too long since I've been up there. We used to go every other summer when I was a kid.
Just need my youngest to get a little bit older.
Great pics and awesome trip so far.
Get ready to pony up for the boat ride at Jenny Lake

We just did Delta Lake. I believe they are essentially the same hike until they split off at a junction near the top. Delta Lake breaks off to the right and goes into a half mile mostly unmaintained trail climbing through the boulder field (below) and steep dirt trail. 20-30% grade during that bit looking at Alltrails. You could combine them if your up to it; sounds like quite the trip.
Looking at Alltrail now, it looks like doing Surprise/Ampitheater would add an additional 3-4 miles to the 8 miles for Delta. Do it if you have the ability, but that would be quite the day of hiking. We took our time for an hour enjoying Delta snaggings pics, eating lunch, and drinking a beer.

I think I can get the wife to Hidden Falls. Maybe I can get her through Cascade Canyon Trail as it doesn’t look too difficult and another couple was talking it up. I’d love to get her to Lake Solitude, but that ain’t happening.
Dragging arse a bit this AM. I’m sure the ferry at Lake Jenny is a shitshow by now.

That’s my concern. Last hike I did was in the Rockies and logged 12.5 miles with 2,500+ elevation gain. A/S/D has similar stats but more elevation gain. And I hear the last stretch of A/S is brutal. Essentially all steep ascent…and that would be after completing Delta.
I guess we will make that call and the junction point on the way back from Delta

The wife made it all the way up the Cascade Trail. 13 miles and 2000’ of elevation. So proud of her. Posting pics as soon as I get back. Killing beers like it’s my job at Dorman’s.

Grand Teton is the most visually stunning place I’ve ever been. The pics don’t do it justice and I apologize.
My wife and I did the Cascade Trail today. We took the ferry across Jenny Lake and walked all the way until the turn off to Solitude Lake. I’d have loved to have done that, but frankly I can’t believe my wife made it that far.
The trail was WAY easier than the Cirque I did this week. AllTrails had it listed as a ‘moderate’, but I found it to be very reasonable.
For any of you single OT baller types, there is a tall, athletic blonde that drives the boat across the lake. She drives the twin 200’s like a fricking champ. Someone please come up here and wife her immediately!
Also, to the MFer with the LSU shirt that I passed and gave a ‘geaux Tigahs’ to: it’s your duty to respond dickhead. I hope you stub your fricking toe. Also, saw part of the Florida men’s soccer team on the trail. Pretty sure they were gay.
Pro Tip: You can order food along with your beer at the bar at Dorman’s. If I was a younger man, I’d hike all day and sit at the bar until dark at Dorman’s and do that all summer.

I’ve read the best views in Cascade Canyon are the first 2+ miles after Inspiration Point. Is this correct? Since it’s an out and back instead of a loop, we may cut it short…we have a lot planned that day.

I think the best pic I took was the waterfall pic that was 100yds passed the turn to Solitude. The whole trip is amazing and the route runs along moose habitat. Most people saw multiple moose, but we only saw the one.
It’s all based off of your party and their interest first and endurance second. After the first mile beyond Inspiration Point, you only saw the truly devoted. We met a lot of southerners out here. Gave a lot of War Eagles to folks on the trail. It’s a tough climb and not easy if you are with kids or folks that aren’t prepared. There were plenty of folks that did Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls and checked out.

Fly fishing today on the Snake River. We took an all day float trip with Bryan Shott of Jackson Hole Fly Fishing School. My wife has never fly fished, but she fishes a lot with me. I wanted a guide that did fundamentals and taught. I’ve taken a bunch of bass guides before, but these guys blew them away. Undoubtedly the best guide experience ever had and will book this outfitter and request this guide again if we are fortunate enough to come back. Bryan was patient and a great teacher for the fundamentals and specifically reading water which is my wife’s weakest point. We both learned a ton.
Brand new drift boat was bad arse. These are purpose built and well suited to their task.
Native cut throat trout were taking the surface flies. I used a small mayfly all day while the wife used a bigger fly with a nymph dropper.
We caught (30) for the boat. My wife caught the big ones as per usual. She had (2) 14” fish and another (3) 10-12” fish. All on top water. Amazing day and the perfect ending to an amazing trip. The wife and I are already talking about coming back.

My wife and I have been together for almost 30 yrs. We agreed last night that this has been our best vacation we’ve ever taken. These 10 days have flown by and we still feel like there’s more for us to do here. Taking the scenic route again back to SLC to catch our plane tomorrow AM.
Big shout out to the Travel Board! We wouldn’t have had as good a trip without all the advice I gathered from y’all. Can’t thank y’all enough. Now, we are trying to decide if we come back here next summer or try another destination like Glacier, Yosemite, or Banff.
