Anyone ever partake in the Houston Rodeo and its activities? Is it overwhelming, or nice to see? Heard there's lots to do for kids, etc. Any reviews/tips would be helpful!

It’s a giant state fair/rodeo/live stock show/ concert all rolled into one. If you are bringing kids and don’t want to do the rodeo/concert at night then bring them early before crowds get big.
If no kids then hit the wine garden.
Tons of things to do and see there

I agree with Hermit.
Inside the NRG center they have a huge petting zoo, and a bunch of live animals for them to see.
A tip for parking: Use the MetroRail and park at Fannin South (the furthest South lot the Rail goes to). After the concert/rodeo, EVERYONE is going to be heading North and the wait could be atrocious. It might take you 10-15 minutes to get to the South lot.

Lots of fine ladies and college females in short shorts with boots. Lots of them smuggling yo-yos

It’s Houston’s Mardi Gras. Almost 2,500,000 people visited last year supposedly.
And like MG, it can be a pain in the arse to navigate if you don’t have experience, advice and/or hookups. What I mean by that is parking, tickets, etc...generally a good plan to get in and out is advised.

There isn't much advice to give other than buy a ticket to the carnival/livestock show if you don't care to see the rodeo/live act that night.
Mid week acts can be had for a steal if you'd like to see the Rodeo.
Cook Off is where you need hookups...if you don't have a wristband then there isn't reason for you to be there.

Tons of people lots of things to do or see. Besides what has been said, there is also the NRG Area that has a small rodeo arena in it where they do various rodeo events in a much more intimate setting. Across from the arena is the Hideout... a huge tent with a dance floor with live country for more music after the rodeo and main concert. NRG Center also has tons of booths for shopping if that is your thing (from home deco & cloths to tractors)

Big carnival with rides and games for kids. NRG center has a bunch of shops, and livestock/petting zoos. Lot of food options. As the others said, its gets crowded in a hurry. I'd imagine that could be overwhelming with kids, but its avoidable going at the right time.
Wine Garden has affordable options for bottles and live music. Then of course the actual rodeo/show.

When I first moved to Houston, I went to rodeo not knowing anything and thought it was miserable. The parking, traffic, people, money was all crap. Swore I’d never go again.
Few years later I went with someone that was a seasoned vet and had a blast. Knew where to park, had concert tickets, knew the good food to eat.
That’s what I meant about getting advice and going in blind.
