Going to Hawaii late July/Early August. Going to Maui for 3 days to start the trip, then rounding out the last 4 days in Honolulu.

I'm looking at Costco Travel for both stays in both cities. Wondering if a car is necessary for Honolulu, because for some of the stays on Costco Travel a car is not included, but for Maui it is.

TIA always

It really depends, if you want to go to the North Shore, Dole Plantation, and certain scenic areas it is certainly a must.
If you want to stay in Waikiki area and use Uber/Lyft it is feasible as well. However, traffic is absolutely horrible on the island since they have no backroads. A 30 minute trip that is advertised for $50 can turn into a whole lot more because you sit and wait for an hour or more.

Honolulu is the largest city in the state of Hawaii and is on Oahu. If you just want to go to Honolulu you don’t need a car, but if you want to see the best parts of Oahu you do need a car and that’s what most would recommend.

Since this appears to be your first time to hawaii the state and both those islands that’s really pushing your time on both. Id consider only going to one? Eh maybe no. But for such a long flight and expensive stay I’d highly suggest extending as many nights as you could. It will be well worth it!

It's actually pretty cool to drive around the entire island of Oahu (the perimeter) taking it slow and stopping at several places. You might get bored hanging out at Diamond Head or Waikiki beach for 4 days.
