Hey Cuse...any tips on getting out to LA area for the rose bowl?
I'm sure there's not magic button to push but I've looked at this thing from all angles and pretty much every option is in the 4 digits unless you want to have like 3 layovers and depart at 4am.

-From atl to LAX I assume is simply not an option. Those are currently running like $1200+.
-Ideal dates would be flying 12/30 and coming back 1/2, but I've tinkered with leaving on the 31st and potentially coming back the 3rd and still not much luck
-In a perfect scenario we would not have to rent a car. So I've looked at flying into SD and taking a $20 train up to LA, but again, even that option is around $1K
-I've also looked at John Wayne, Ontario, and even Las Vegas. Those would require a car rental though, and even vegas which is 4 hours away was approaching $1K

I know there's not going to be anything for dirt cheap and I don't expect that, but I was kind hoping for the 650-850 price range. And ultmiately, I'm going regardless so wahtever, but man I just don't want to spend over 1K on a damn flight.

Are there any other options you may have as a seasoned vet? Could there ever be a scenario where airlines see the high demand and add more flights?

The problem is flying back on Jan 2nd, everyone will be trying to fly back from their new years destination. You're going to need to look for nearby airports rather than the nonstop ATL-LAX. Here's a link that can get you to palm springs on your dates for $556. LINK

Knoxville to Los Angeles is about $722

Easiest thing to do is to just play around on google flights. In the origin or destination just click on the nearby locations

I'll be skiing the rest of the day but will check back after to see if you need help.

Thanks. Before you head out (or later, whatever), is there any real difference between the "mid tier" airlines? I fly maybe once a year, if that, and I always fly delta. I've flown SW before with no issues. I know to avoid spirit and frontier at all costs, but the other ones like united and american...is there any reason to avoid those or are they pretty much all the samne?

Delta - american - United - southwest - jetblue all on same level, pretty much the same except for baggage fees

Frontier - spirit - allegiant in the lower tier

Ok awesome. I never check bags anyway, just a backpack and a carryon. I'm not familiar at all with american or united but it's looking more and more likely that those will be the 2 I key in on as they are much cheaper than delta right now. By a lot.

If aa or ua and bringing a carryon, either get ready to pay $25 for a bag each way if on a basic economy ticket or pay the extra $15/$20 to avoid basic economy

Google flights is some kind of miracle worker. I booked into and out of SD (29th and 3rd, which was longer than I wanted but oh well), non stop delta round trip, for like $400 less than what was listed on delta's website.

One of my friends was looking to go & gave up last night. He said he wasn't paying for four tickets w/ such high airfare.

But if you're going to the game, and it's your thing, Dave Chappelle has tickets available at The Forum on New Year's Eve.

Did he look in to spirit airlines? They are bottom tier, but they are cheap, if that's what he is worried about. He could book a round trip for like 650 probably. I was going to go, but had a trip booked to take my wife and kids to the mountains that week.

I’d rather fly spirit or frontier nonstop atl to lax than a better airline atl to San Diego.

San Diego to Pasadena is either a 3 hour train ride or a crash course in world famous SoCal traffic.
