Help me plan 10 days in Italy

So I’ll be in Italy from MAY 3 to MAY 11
Help me plan a route. I’ll be starting in the north and would like to finish at the Almalfi coast (unless there is something really awesome in the southern part of the country)
Lake Como?
Sienna?
Vincenzia (sp)?
I will have my own vehicle
I’d prefer to stick mainly to more rural/smaller cities/towns but I’m not opposed to 2 days in Florence or ROME or Venice
What about the best place to hit some wineries? Are their wineries similar to ours?
Thanks guys!

Skip Genoa and Milan
Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre, Rome are all great. Positano and Sorrento are must sees too.
Wasn’t too fond of Naples.

10 days is really a short time to do all that. I would do north or south but not both. I would do Venice/Florence/Tuscany or Rome/Amalfi Coast. Otherwise you will be spending too much time travelling from place to place. The best place to visit wineries is in Tuscany and yes I find that the tours are similar to the ones I have been on in California. If you are looking for small towns, I would suggest Tuscany where there are plenty of medieval hill towns to visit that feature beautiful scenery and exceptional wines. We are doing Venice/Florence/Tuscany in March. My favorite base on the Amalfi Coast is Positano. From there you can visit the other towns along the coast. The scenery is gorgeous.

Don’t even think about driving in Rome.

Agree. Naples can be skipped. If you can get to bellagio go there....the mountain views are spectacular. Rome is a must as is the amalfi coast. Portofino looks like a disney creation with the colored buildings on the sea. The square in florence is worthwhile as is the ponte vecchio bridge. The food is straight from the farm to your plate in most small towns. Try to eat where the locals eat.

Ha. Just crossing the street as a pedestrian is a chore in rome. The scooters are like swarming gnats

Not to mention the six way stop lights where it looks like all the traffic is pointed at each other. There aren't that many of them but they are confusing as hell.

I thought our NYC cab ride to the airport was wild until I experienced one in Rome . Pedal to the metal and I'm fairly certain the dude wasn't aware of the paint on the road's function. Just straight disrespecting other cabs too, flying past them with inches to spare.

I know it's out of the way, but Taormina, Sicily is my favorite place on Earth. You can grab flights from Rome for like $100.

quote:We had a car in Rome one time. We were driving from Rome to Tuscany and rented a car on our 2nd to last day in Rome because we wanted to go to Hadrian's Villa and the Gardens of Villa D'Est in Tivoli which are highly recommended. The only thing worse than driving in Rome is parking. It is a real pain. Most hotels don't have parking garages and charge an exorbitant amount to valet park your car. We ended up parking at the train station and catching a cab to and from the hotel.
Don't even think about driving in Rome.

This past summer we did the Amalfi Coast for a part of our honeymoon. We stayed in Ravello, we enjoyed it much more than Positano because it doesn’t have the hourly ferry bringing in hundreds of tourists t
