This is the logic I used. I wanted a culture very different than anything else I have ever experienced. Colombia was a close second.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand
The below should be avoided for Vacation travel IMHO and I have been to them more times than I care to remember.
New Delhi, India and Mumbai, India
Abu Dhabi, UAE and Dubai, UAE
The only folks that should even really consider the UAE for vacations are the very wealthy and locals in the region without better options.
Mumbai is just plain awful
