Headed to Grenada in a month. The gf's daughter is enrolled at the med school there and will still be in session during our stay. We are booked at the Radison on the beach. Plans so far other than drinking beer and laying out at the beach/pool, are to go snorkeling/scuba diving at the underwater sculptures and hiking to a waterfall in a rain forest.

Wondering if anyone has ever been and have any bar/restaurant things to do recs not previously mentioned.

Took the family there about 10 years ago. Best island trip we ever took. Incredible, diverse landscapes. Great food. Friendly people that speak English.

The Aquarium Restaurant was by far our favorite. Magazine Beach is beautiful.

We stayed at the Blue Horizon. Really cool local hotel. About a 10 minute walk to Gran Anse Beach. Umbrella's was a go to bar for us. Had drinks one night and listened to music at the very ritzy Spice Island Resort!

Better yet, at the end of Grand Anse, is Morne Rouge Beach. Also known as "BBC Beach" (no, not that! ) A great beach with fewer people than Grand Anse. Wonderful sand and almost a glassy sea on the day we were there. Hardly noticeable is a great beach bar about half way to the end.

We hired a driver and toured the island, including some spectacular waterfalls an the rain forest.

You'd mentioned "gf & daughter", so just wanted to clarify that for you. You know TD and these Caribbean Islands.

PS: Re: Snorkeling. Wasn't bad off of the beach by the Aquarium Restaurant.

Grenada is known as the "Wreck Diving Capital Of The World". I dove for years, but didn't get to go, but just FYI. Diving.

We did take a boat tour and snorkeled around the Underwater Sculpture Park! An interesting trip.

do a day trip to the Grenadines (stop at Mayreau which has a beautiful beach with a few old school bars and merchants set up on the beach, stop at the Tobago Cays for some unreal snorkeling with the sea turtle and on the way back make a stop at Mopion Island which is super cool). All of this can easily be done in a day. You can see Grenada off in the distance from all of these locations. I think you could stop in at customs on Union Island which is quite near these attractions.

Always reminds me of the great ad from SNL in 1987 for the book series on the war in Grenada. Can't find video, but here is the script.

[open on Father and Child looking at a Grenada poster outside a travel agency ]

Child: Dad? What’s Grenada?

V/O: A child’s question. But not a question a child might ask. And one, that in the past, has only led to more childish questions.

Child: Did we win the war in Grenada, Daddy?

V/O: Why did we go there? How did we find it? What did the Marines do the rest of that week?

Child: Is it really the smallest country in the world?

V/O: Time-Life Books presents: The Grenada Experience. The series designed to help you celebrate the greatest military triumph of our generation. 48 comprehensive volumes, one for every hour of this explosive period in American history. We’ll take you there, with the first troops to land. You’ll experience first-hand what it was like to ask directions from people with English accents. You’ll attend secret meetings at the White House, and meet the men who first realized that, somewhere in the world, there had to be a country we could lick. Call toll-free, and start putting the Grenada experience into focus. It’s important to gloat over Grenada. But gloating isn’t enough. Even bragging isn’t enough. It’s even more important to ask the question, “What is the big deal?” For ourselves, and for future generations.

Announcer: Call 1-800-PUSHOVER. Order now, and receive, free of charge, the 14-volume set “Time-Life History of Head-On Collisions”. Jam-packed with photos previously published only in Mexican newspapers.

We are back from Grenada. Had a great time and look forward to going back and doing/seeing things we did not do on this trip.

As stated in my original post, we stayed at the Radisson on Grand Anse, so most of our time was spent in this area of the island. We did trek to BBC one afternoon and it was fantastic. I think there were a total of 10 people at the beach including us.

Food- Fricking awesome every place we went. Sails on the water in St George, Container Park (multiple vendors) we had Indian, Umbrellas, Ricks Cafe, The Radisson- multiple meals at the last three.

We went on a snorkeling trip to the Underwater Sculptures on The Corsair. If you have time I highly recommend this. We motored from Grand Anse beach to St. George's, the sculptures, and to another bay. We sailed back to Grand Anse. Included in the trip was lunch and drinks. The food was fantastic. LINK

Unfortunately we did not go to the rainforest, which was on our to do list. The girlfriend is still recovering from a back procedure and the trek to BBC was tough on her, so we will save that for the next trip.

I really can't find anything I disliked about Grenada and can't wait to go back and do some of the same things we did and find some new places to see. Safe travels!

You didn't go there if you don't have pics!

Seriously, great you had a good time there! If you do have any pics to share, love to see them.

I have Verizon and only used it at the hotel (wifi) a couple of times and it worked fine. I have a company phone and was worried that a hefty charge would come with using it away from the hotel. That and I really didn't need to make any calls while out and about.
