Going to Yellowstone in May. Travel guide suggests bringing binoculars. Is that necessary?
Is there a reason you are opposed? Yes, I would absolutely bring them. I brought a 60x spotting scope and there were animals that were further away then I could see very well.
The lamar valley is massive, 1000 yards or more across probably? You likely will be stopped by buffalo on the road, but the other animals are often not close.

No. Just like to pack as light as possible. Been to Grand Canyon, Glacier, Bryce, Zion, Estes, Acadia and never had any reason to need them but thank you to you and r3 for confirming.

Can do it, but will not see much. Will be a whirlwind tour.

For the landscape you don’t need them. It’s for the wildlife like wolves, sheep, and bears. I’d definitely bring them if you care about wildlife. You definitely don’t need them for the landscape viewing though.
