I have to go in June for work. The work site is on the outskirts but I plan to stay on the inskirts because I'm bringing wife for a work-cation.

Hotel recommendation?

Must-See/Do?

We have Verizon on Iphone7, what do I need to do to make my phone work?

I haven't traveled outside of US/Mexico/Canada in a very long time. I was in Dubai but didn't use my phone. I don't know how the phone thing works in Europe. Something about SIM cards?

Do the Taxis take American Express?

Only into hotels? I rarely find a hotel to be a better option (value and quality) than getting an Airbnb (entire home kind, not a shared room). Many Airbnbs now are made to be like hotels, all the while being cheaper.

There's museums etc, but I'm not too familiar with the city. There's some great day trips outside of it however. Koblenz is a great town. You could do a river boat down the Rhine. There's Strasbourg. Also Colmar and the Alsatian region. Nuremberg, Munich are just a a short train ride away.

Verizon has a $10/day international fee. But it lets you use all your data plan the same way. However it's spotty sometimes. Call them up and they'll set it up for you. They will also send a guide on how to change your phone settings. It's not worth it if you're over there more than 2 weeks. Otherwise you should probably get a SIM card from a local provider

AMEX isn't very widely accepted in Europe

I did their $5/day Canada thing, the phone worked fine but I couldn't send or receive text messages without being on wifi.

I've been told that's a Canada problem, not a Verizon problem.

Is Germany's cellular infrastructure better than that? With me splitting my time working and hanging out with wife, it's very important for us to be able to communicate reliably.

Nah, it's the agreement they have with other carriers. It's spotty everywhere outside of the USA

is surprisingly shitty, but you should be good in Frankfurt. What kind of person has work in Frankfurt with a name like deep rig?

Frankfurt gets a bad rap, as most people are expecting Munich or Berlin, but a much different region,

Frankfurt has some great Apfelwein restaurants (if you have not been, think Cider). If you are into that, I will give you some restaurants.

I am boring and stay at the Intercontinental or Marriott.

But I do like Mainz which is not far from Frankfurt, and you can get to by train. They have a very nice little Guttenberg Bible Museum.

I go to Frankfurt quite often. Usually stay at Roomers by the train station. This hotel is big but has a great bar and outdoor area. The bar turns into a club at night.

The Sachsenhausen area is an old scenic area full of good bars and restaurants. I like Fichtekranzi for the traditional apfelwein and German food. Also visit Romerburg Square, which was rebuilt after WWII in the traditional style.

This looks like a nice place. Is the location in the center of touristy things? That's the goal.

Additional Question-

If we rented a car for a daytrip somewhere, what is recommended? Seeing countryside and more touristy stuff is again the goal.

Somethng like this- and see Mosel river towns and weinstubes etc

June in the Wine region is great. All vineyards are full, and there is a wine fest every Thurs-Sun in one of the villages which is a cool experience. Great food, lots of Rieslingschorles, and usually crappy live music. It is also a good chance to see some beautiful old towns and drink with locals.

The German wine region is very underappreciated, in my opinion... of course I used to live there so I am a bit biased.

It is only an hour drive from Frankfurt, but I would consider a train since you should be doing some drinking!
I would check out the Hambach, Deidesheim, Wachenheim area.

Here is the link to the wine region website which may give you some ideas.

Yes, it is right in the middle and you can walk or do a quick Uber to pretty much anything you'd want to do in Frankfurt. The walk along the river from Roomers to Sachsenhausen is about 15 minutes and very scenic.

Nurenberg is about 2.5 hour drive from Frankfurt and one of my favorite places in Germany.

Haven't seen Heidelberg mentioned, but that's a beautiful town, and pretty close. You've probably seen the castle overlooking the river in a hundred different pictures of Germany.
Stuttgart and the Black Forest region aren't much further.

I booked the Intercontinental today. It was $500 cheaper going directly through hotel than orbitz. But you pay in advance and nonrefundable. I recently encountered this in Montreal as well. This must be a Euro Trash thing.

Club King Suite

Now I need help scamming SAP Onesource ... I’ll start another topic for that though.
