I’m not the original poster but now I’m interested in Marco Island. What’s the best way to get to Marco Island? Fly into Ft Myers and rent a car? Are there alternatives to renting a car?

Fort Myers has a good, smaller airport, modern, with a nice rental car selection. As I recall it was about a 75-90 minute drive to Marco.

Marco island by a long way. I’m not a fan of southeast Florida.

I live in SE Florida, and I don't like Ft Lauderdale/Miami. If you go a little north, to the stretch from Jupiter to Cocoa, the vibe is more laid back and quiet. More quiet and less crowded than the Gulf side, even.

If you like to be where the action is and want night clubs and parties, the Treasure Coast is not for you.

Fort Lauderdale - wall-to-wall condos.

Jupiter - quieter and more spread out. More ocean front parks and no real high rise buildings.
