About to book a trip from Houston to Johannesburg from July 15th (need to land in Johan on July 17th) and leave on July 24th.
The best flight I'm seeing is about $2200 for a 1 stop (4 hours not bad) flight. Curious if any of the boards flight/international gurus had any pointers I might be missing.
I'm using points so if that's the best flight then so be it but figured I'd check.

Just a quick 3 min search, I can see availability on ANA's website. JFK to JNB round trip with one stop each way (2.5 & 3.5 hr layover) for 65000 pts & $500 total.
All the dates meet your criteria. Pretty good deal with such short notice. Only catch is you'll have to position to JFK. You can play around with other airports instead of JFK (I only tried IAH & JFK). ANA also allows you to do a free stopover if you want to stop in Cairo for a few days in between.

yes, takes 2-3 days for transfer though. Can fly from IAD for 65,000 pts + $117 same dates and shorter layover.

So I would transfer my AMEX points over to ANA and then book directly on the ANA website to do what you're saying?

Correct. Sign up for ANA mileage club, search and confirm that's the flight you want, go to Amex site then transfer.

Sorry I've been traveling all week but I'll take a look maybe tonight when I get a chance
Finally took a look and what was found above looks to be the best options. Not seeing anything better than $2500 today and that's the one stop with 3 hours in Amsterdam
