Fishing in Glacier NP

Has anyone had any success fishing streams in or around GNP? I was going to book a half day trip but the prices seem pretty steep. I want to just rent a rod and some baits and go try on my own. I have never fly fished before but I do a lot of fishing and feel I can figure out the gist of it after a couple hours. I would never do this back home but I’m literally asking for someone’s honey hole

you can teach yourself how to cast in your backyard with a popping bug (cut the hook off). It will help quite a bit if you at least know how to do that.
otherwise, if it looks fishy I bet you can figure it out. Look for eddys behind big rocks and small calmer areas. The one time I’ve done it we were pretty much sight casting

haven't been to Glacier but typically the folks at a local tackle/fly shop can give some helpful tips. make sure you're complying with all the regs, they take their trout real serious out west

Since I may get there 2-3x more in my life, at best, I'll openly share a few spots I found in the park last summer.
McDonald creek, RIGHT by all the people and traffic. Take the trail behind Apgar Village to the creek. You can cross Camas Rd and get down to the creek, just past the bridge. Caught a bunch right there while the family was eating ice cream a few hundred yards away.
You can park in Apgar Village and also swing in Glacier Outfitters and check their chalk board of what they've been biting on, while picking up some bear spray.
Do the Avalanche Lake hike and take your gear. We caught a bunch just standing on some of the big rocks. My 8yr old was wearing em out on a rooster tail too.
Running Eagle Falls hike is super short and we did it on the way back to Whitefish when we were already exhausted one afternoon. Grabbed my rod, not expecting much, but caught a bunch of fish right near the waterfall.
Several other creeks produced fish and I wasn't doing any serious fishing. Just break out the rod when the family was eating a snack or taking a break. Nothing big, but had a blast. The scenery while fishing there would be damn hard to beat anywhere. I'm jealous and wish I was headed back there tomorrow.
FYI: no license needed to fish inside the park.

Just got back yesterday from GNP. Wow, that is a beautiful place! Didn’t fish there, fished the Missouri out of Craig, MT before heading up to Glacier. Lots of people fishing the Flathead. It isn’t a gold medal stream like the rivers south of there but you have bull trout and native west slope cutthroat. The North Fork is where you want to fish and it is beautiful. You can head toward Polebridge and fish from there. GNP will be on one side and the Flathead National Forest on the other. Talk the the guys n the local fly shop and they will hook you up on what to throw at them. Best of luck.
