I'm currently enrolled in LSU in a masters program online out of state and wanted to go to the LSU vs Alabama game.

Any tips on where to stay in Baton Rouge, tailgating ideas, restaurants to eat at, etc.

I was also thinking of spending the first part of that week in NOLA. How long does it take to drive from NOLA to Baton Rouge?

Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

Stay in NOLA on Friday night and do the NOLA tourist stuff. Beignets, the Quarter etc .

Drive in to Baton Rouge EARLY. Like leave NOLA at 8 am. Get to campus as early as possible. Tailgate. Walk around and tell people it’s your first time on campus and they will ply you with food and drink . Walk to Parade Grounds , Union, Bell Tower , Quad, Indian Mounds. Watch team arrive on bus . Watch band march down hill . Get into stadium one hour before kickoff. Get your seat. Enjoy pregame videos and most importantly the Golden Band from Tiger Land and team running into field.

After game for maximum LSU atmospherics walk behind band as it leaves stadium and marches to Greek Theatre area. Go home. Or back to NOLA. Sunday in NOLA is my favorite. Eat and walk and enjoy the artists , performers and buskers, weirdness etc. Take the red eye out Sunday night. A perfect weekend .
