Looking for somewhere to take my family for Mardi Gras. 9 and 4 year old boys. Would like to go to the beach but no Mexico. We have never been skiing as a family either.

Drive to Cloudcroft, NM
Long road trip, but man it’ll be nice, and save you some money. No flights, cheaper skiing, good views.
If you want more of a challenge just drive north to Ski Apache.
Cloudcroft: $45/35 (adult/junior)
Apache: $85/65
You can assume that rentals will range from $30-50/day per person.
More expensive and just a bit further away is Santa Fe. There is better skiing up there (more reliable snow and more trails). Just depends on what you want to start the kids with...

Take them skiing. Perfect age and Mardi Gras is a great time. Good snow and decent weather and lower crowds. I would suggest flying American or United direct to Gunnison and driving 30 minutes to Crested Butte. Very kid friendly. My kids (now 31, 28 and 26) learned to ski there when they were 3-4 years old. No Denver crowds and great food and town. Also, slight off-season at that time, so prices are normally pretty good.

It's not like you will have to worry about missing Mardi Gras.
