Planning a trip for April of '17 and looking at the 2 Excellence resorts on Dominican Republic... Anybody been to both (Punta Cana and El Carmen) and if so, which do you prefer?

El Carmen doesn't open till next month. I will be there 1st week in October. It looks more modern and no lazy river

No but will be there for two day then on to El Carmen in October. I have been to one in Playa Mujeres. It was really nice and the reason we chose Excellence El Carmen

My wife wants to see those G'damn pigs too. I think they are in the Abacos too. Probably some other islands as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed Playa. Only thing I wish the new place had was the lazy river. There will be plenty of Don Julio consumed in October. There's about 20 couples from BR area in the group that are going

Wife and I went to Excellenece Punta Cana for honeymoon few months ago. We loved it. We didn't have any problems with mosquitos, but we sprayed every day. Water was crystal clear and beach was beautiful. Only thing we were disappointed with, was the food. There were only a couple of restaurants that we enjoyed. The rest were mediocre.

We would definitely go back.

ETA: if you go, take lots of mosquito spray and sunscreen. We ran out our last day and the resort wanted at least $30/can

good to know.. we're trying to decide between Exumas and Punta Cana. Exumas seems to have less of those types of issues.

Check out Zoetry Augua Punta Cana. Wife and I just got back, it is a smaller resort (96 rooms) and is right past the excellence resort. Not a lot of people and was much quieter than other all inclusive resorts. The beach was awesome and the food was the best we had ever had from an all inclusive. (we have stayed at excellence, sandals and secrets before) The service and meals were really a step above all the other all inclusive's we had been to
