There are just as many backpackers in Thailand as Europe. Plenty of accommodations for next to nothing prices. The beers you drink will cost as much as your room for the night.

You better make sure the hostels have AC that's all I know, 3 things I've heard about Thailand is its hot, cheap, and tricking hot.

You don't need hostels in Thailand - hotels are cheap, maybe a few bucks more than you would pay for a decent hostel in Europe. Plus, you're probably going to want your own room at night for the ladies

I've lived and traveled all over Thailand. It is heaven on earth.

You can find whatever your budget allows. I know guys over there paying $150 a month for rent with everything included.

The real benefit is the insane value. For $1,000 a month you can live in a mansion MTV cribs style.

Enjoy man.

In Chiang Mai it is stupid easy.

Every apartment building around the Nimmanheiman area rents short term.

Do not book anything in advance. Find a hostel for a day or so and then walk to various apartments and ask.

I've paid $1,500 a month for stupid luxury and I've paid $250 a month for a basic room.

I would imagine so. Money is all that matters. They don't really have rules.

take the time to get over to Cambodia while you are there, at least do Siem Reap and the temples.

Do I need a travel visa for that?
Do I have to fly or can you take a bus/train?

Bump.

Booked a 3 week trip to Cambodia for February. Will be backpacking and staying at hostels as well.

Shitty thing is I'm only allowed one entry into the country, so visiting Thailand is out.

Sounds like you can get multi entry if you visit a travel agent once inside Cambodia. Look into it.
