There's a lot to see in the general area, really depends on just how much time you'll be spending. The easiest answer would be to go over to Turquoise Lake (a little NW of town). Really pretty, loop around with pull-offs to get a good view. Would only take like an hour, depending on how much you stop.

Go down to Twin Lakes too. It's like 20-25 min from Leadville on US 24, with a turn off. It's beautiful. Drive up Lake County 24 to the Elbert Forebay. Enjoy the view of the tallest mountains in the Rockies all around you.

There are options for hiking, I'd just need to know how much time you want to spend on doing it and exactly when you'd be in Leadville.

In terms of lunch the options aren't abundant. I'd maybe hit the Treeline Cafe and see if you can eat upstairs. It's a nice view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

High Mountain Pies makes a fine pizza.

If it's a weekend, Tennessee Pass Cookhouse is suppose to be good but it's a little ways NW of town right by Ski Cooper. They only do dinner during the week.

The Silver Dollar Saloon is also a solid option with a lot of history. Can have a drink where Doc Holliday did.

If Mexican, Casa Sanchez 2 is solid to good.

Have any other questions, ask.

I was there, Saturday. It’s such a beautiful place. I hated that the Matchless is permanently closed.

Was in Leadville Saturday too, getting groceries. Yeah, I've absolutely fallen in love with this part of the world.

Was there today too and it looks like Melanzana will be open soon. The store looked pretty set up for business and they have signs that they are hiring.

If you are interested in military stuff you can go out to Camp Hale where The 10th Mountain Division trained in Mountain and Ski Warfare during WWII. Some of the guys that trained there returned to Colorado after the war and founded several of the recreation ski mountains. There isn't a whole lot left at the camp except some ruins of old barracks and some interpretive signs but its kind of cool.

Duke, off topic. Did you move? Are you still going to contribute to hurricane threads this year? All bullshite aside, I really depend on you and rds’ opinion. I’d be really bummed not to have your input.

Yes, but it's short term. We'll be back in New Orleans come September. Getting that free child care off the grandparents while my wife WFH and I teach myself to code, take some extra classes online and look for work/consider grad school.

I'll be in the hurricane threads this year though. Just from a slightly higher elevation.

Yep. We’ll stop there even though I understand most of the structures are gone. It’s great history

We’ll spend most of the day in town I expect

In Leadville?

There's more than a day's worth in the immediate area, but you gotta realize Leadville is pretty small in terms of a city.

That's well outside of town and across the divide. Tennessee Pass is worth driving though, so I'd advise doing it but it's not exactly right next to town.

Drive down to Twin Lakes too. It's like 25 minutes one way. Extremely pretty.

Also, the breakfast burritos at the Safeway are really fricking good for a grocery store. One of the better ones I've had.
