Thanks Duke. We’re all up and hitting the road to the trail shortly. One of the guys in our group kind of group around here and has a few 14ers under his belt, so feel pretty good about that. Will be keeping an eye out on the clouds. Hope I remember to post a trip report afterwards.

Made summit just under 5 hours, went very slow. Feeing great and soaking up some sun on the summit before heading back down. Incredible hike.

I'm starting to see there's a market for my knowledge. Of course, I'd need to figure out how to do it.

I'd also like to get like an old Land Cruiser (like mid 2000s) with 7 or 8 seats and do bespoke driving tours out of Leadville in the summer. The woman that works the Leadville visitors center has been telling me all summer about all the requests for someone who could just drive a family around vs a big organized thing with different groups.

Ended up on the traditional nottheast trail. Parking wasn’t awful. One extra mile walk for 6 miles total from car to summit. Rain clouds starting to build, feel bad for the people heading up now - quite a few too.

They're having an awful time, considering I'm getting a hail storm at the house.

Like a lot of hail, I hope my La Plata baw got down soon enough.

La Plata baw is here. Man, that was an awesome mountain. Grueling, but awesome. I felt it progressively became more difficult. Just when you’re spirits have flat-lined after the switchbacks above the tree line, you reach the boulder field for the last 3/4 mile with probably 3-4 false peaks. For some reason, that’s fun. Was a great hike.

Wife and I were out the door around 3:35, hitting the trailhead around 5:00ish, after missing the initial trail walking past quarter mile. I think we summited around 9:15, chatted with some folks for awhile, and made our way down. I noticed the clouds you forewarned about yesterday forming around 9:30 and then exploded in size over the next half hour so we high-tailed our way down.

Definitely hit that same rain and hail storm on our way out after stopping at the general store for memorabilia. Also, I noticed an LSU banner on the main road on the way out from the trailhead. That you baw?

The placement of La Plata is awesome. Just big mountains all around and the spine of the divide. Good work hitting the top before 9:30 and glad you enjoyed the hike. That's a nice 14er to put in the collection.

And that isn't me down 82. I'm up on the hill east of the village, overlooking the Lakes with Quail Mountain and Mt. Oxford directly out the front. I know the family with that house though.

Looked like a pretty slick cabin.

Agree with La Plata. 360 views of surrounding mountain ranges were incredible. Felt like it set a pretty high bar.

I want to hit the Columbia/Harvard trail now that the 14er initiative has fixed up the trail. It used to be rough as hell, but I bet you it's as rewarding as La Plata. Glad you enjoyed yourself and didn't get shite on by the hail and lightning.

We made it back down to the car in about 3.5 hours. Decently tough descent. I’ma post some pictures when I get time later tomorrow or Tuesday. Absolutely whooped right now. Was a great hike and I felt pretty good up and down. Weather was perfect - overcast going up, sun poked out at the summit, a little overcast on the descent. Didn’t really sweat too much and definitely didn’t drink enough fluids. Hit up High Mountain Pies in Leadville and then back to Avon. Great day.

Check out Routes Car Rentals at the airport. A friend just got a Jeep 4x4 for $55/day.
